I think Grealish loan might be the answer. Prefers number 10 but can play wide left. Ends up being a great replacement for Sonny. City subsidise his wages. I can see it as a possibility.

Paqueta would probably be the most natural replacement for Madders but surely West Ham won’t sell him to us after Kudus, surely?

At least it’s happened now and not after the window has closed.

Those claiming "i knew this would happen" should park their visionary genius and remember we trued to sign MGW.

Buying players isn't like shopping for clothes.

MGW would have been perfect because many of the players available in this 10 role, the likes if Eze Simons Grealish are mainly attackers, not midfielders and while JM may have been a bit light weigh he has the ability to drop deep and play from there, dictate things a bit more, link things together. MGW has the same.

Other options are far more attacking and do not add that same quality to our CM.

It's a very difficult role to fil not least because there are not too many out there who offer that balanced range of abilities.

I think Frank would prefer a 10 more on the CM side than the AM side...an Eriksen sort who can control and covers ground but also delivers in the final third.

There's no easy choices for us if we want a balanced team. Between Deki and Madders we covered all bases. Without both were going to have to adapt.


On reflection, Eze may be seems like the natural choice as he can also replace Son. We should just out bid Arsenal, the worst that can happen is they end up spending more than they want if we fail.

I don’t believe that. I just think you’ve fallen for the stories. He has that one summer after the treble where he went for it big time. Since then, the paps are acts the next big Grealish binge because it makes headlines. As far as I’m concerned, he’s no worse than any other player that likes a beer. People just focus on him more. David Silva was a massive drinker but no one mentions that.

I just think Grealish’s form is down to the fact that Pep doesn’t fancy him. His hope is diminished. You’d drop your head too in those circumstances. Make him the big man again, he’ll shine.

He’s a spurs player without the kit on. He’s made for us.

Sorry but this is rubbish. We’re about to sign Paulinha in the deeper role and we have Sarr, Bergvall, Bissouma and Bentancur that can play the CM role. We’re overstocked in that area. We went in for MGW because he’s a good player and for what we thought was good value. This isn’t necessarily about crafting a good squad. It’s sometimes about taking an opportunity, even if you’re already well stocked in that area. We don’t need a 10 to play as a CM. Maddison played deeper maybe twice since he’s been with us. We just need a 10, ideally one that can play wide left too, so I agree with you on the Eze front but I don’t think we can convince him over Arsenal.

Maybe Paqueta is the answer. He can create. He’s more in the Bruno Fernandes mould. We’re desperate for creativity, more so than a wide forward.

My worry is also goals this year. With Son gone, I worry where the goals are going to come from. So many holes to fill.
