I have more faith in Fabio than Rafael but his spell at QPR will be interesting as their defence before crazy transfer day was awful. Hopefully with Julio Cesar behind him he'll learn a lot.

Fabio is on loan. He has done very little to prove he is our future left back.

Disagree. He's done everything he can do I think. Never had a bad game for us and when called upon for the big occasions has always delivered. Was one of our best players in the 3-1 champions league final defeat to Barcelona in 2011 while playing in what he has gone on record as saying is his least favored full-back slot . Just unfortunate to have had a player who was at his peak the best left back in the world ahead of him at the club.

We almost have the same team! I literally thought I would be alone with my front six

As with every one of these types of articles, the team would depend on the opposition.

West Ham when we were smashed he was dreadful, the Raf came on for him and was dreadful too! Apart from that I agree

The Red Side

The intention of this article isn't so much as to decide a best 11, but more to see which additions to the squad people would like to see for 2013-2014, as Evra, Giggs, Scholes and Nani look like they'll be moving on for next season at this point.

I disagree with the assertion though that the team would depend entirely on the opposition though.

Perhaps against a Barcelona or Real Madrid away, where 4-3-3 would be almost a must with a tight midfield and an onus on counter attacking and slow, methodical possession play. But I think in general only 2 or 3 players would change week to week, although they may be different players each week, as is Sir Alex's way.

Oh well, this has killed a small chunk of my Monday, so good stuff.

Was a good enough article. Gave it 5 stars

Haha here's a beautiful future for you, seen bollox reports this morning about us being linked with two players who'd literally make that squad the best in the world.

Cleverley - (Fabregas)
(Ronaldo) - Rooney - Kagawa

But the day that happens is the day Got_Better writes an impartial article on a Man Utd 3 - 2 Liverpool at Anfield where we get a penalty in the 96th minute which smashes against the crossbar, bounces on the line and is given by Howard Webb. Also Suarez wins a nicest smile contest.

Carrick instead of Cleverley.

Btw how has Fabio done on his loan spell? I know he had a mare in the first game but how did he perform in the next two?
Also how is our beloved Park doing?

posted on 10/9/12

Park played well first game, despite them getting destroyed.

It really should not. If we want to be the best, we put out our best team and make others adjust to them, not the other way around.

Read my reply to you yesterday.

Here it is incase you missed it:

Yes in an ideal world, I'd love us to play our most commonly used formation, a formation which we know how to play and which has brought us unparalleled success over the years against everyone however unfortunately we don't have the players to make 4-4-1-1/4-4-2 work against the best teams and so in order to compete we have to change it and play with an extra midfielder so we don't get outnumbered in midfield. You're right when you say we shouldn't be changing the way we normally play to suit other teams, unfortunately we have no other option but to do that in certain games with the personnel we have currently.

We had it perfect in 2008 and in 2009. Our standard 4-5-1/4-3-3 European formation proved very successful and it or something similar, is what we should go back to IMO. Unfortunately now, we don't have the likes of Ronaldo and Tevez to make it work as efficiently as it did back then but it's still something we need to consider going back to if we are to succeed in Europe.

It would have to be anderson and carrick for me in a 2 man midfield.

cleverly is too similar in style to carrick for me as he likes to pay simply balls, whereas i think we miss a player with drive at times.

the problem i see for cleverly is he doesnt look suited to playing in a 2 man midfield, but there are currently 2 better players at ubited in the suppoorting role, so where does that leave him, after all, rooney and kagawa are hardly at retirement age.

Rotation is key. It's the only way to keep a 25 man squad happy.

The supporters hate it but it's a necessary evil.

25 guys who all think they should play against Barca.

posted on 10/9/12

yeah i know mate, that was just based on who i would pick as my strongest 11 with that formation.

ive said many times when people were on about welbeck missing out when RVP came in, its not longer about a starting 11, its all about the squad, especially if we are looking to play close to 60 games a season.

posted on 10/9/12

but the difference with cleverly is he has two superior players who play in his favoured position.

posted on 10/9/12

Yeah, its a shame for Cleverley because everyone is raving about him there for England.

It makes you wonder why we bought Kagawa when Sir Alex must have known Cleverley can play there (and well).
And i'm not saying Cleverley is better than Kagawa. The truth is we don't know.
One thing I am pretty sure of is that Cleverley is no more a central midfielder than Kagawa is.

posted on 10/9/12

kagawa for me is in a different class to cleverly at the minute.

posted on 10/9/12

It was against Moldova, people need to be a little bit more realistic here.

Cleverly is a very neat and tidy player who provides us with much needed energy through the middle, but he is a long long way off being considered in the same class as Kagawa.
