Over here it is a beer made from corn, called a malt liquor. a 40oz bottle (near a litre) for about a dollar. Hobo drink.

Theres also a game called "Edward 40 hands" where you have two 40s of Cobra or similar hobo drink taped to your hands and you have to drink them all before anyone will remove them.
