SEVEN CL qualification places?!

You have to look at it from a perspective other than United. In the top 4 you have 2 clubs that have spent heavily to get there. You then have a club who have traditionally massive and command massive commercial revenue. That 3 places sealed up.

So really there's only 1 place on offer, and even that is for a qualification round, rather then straight in the tournament.

Clubs like Everton, Tottenham, Newcastle and Liverpool will get a massive boost from this.

In my original post I spoke of a balance (nothing about United who would be fine unless it's just the champions), part of that is the revenue generated from the competition by having Europe's elite in the last 32 or 16 etc.

Also There are other leagues such as in Spain where 4th place changes regulary. Even in England Spurs have come 4th twice recently.

CL - isn't broke so needs no fixing

EL - Should be made mroe interesting. More prize money for the winners and semi-finalists etc. Also the winner and runner up should be given automatic places in CL, while the 3rd and 4th should be give the chance of entering pre-qualifying for CL

Actually, that isn't a bad idea

The only thing here is, this would mean that a place in some small league will have to be reduced to accomodate the extra EL winners and runner ups.

means we might have a chance of getting in

Most of my friends from my youth are Liverpool supporters, Ive heard it plenty of times.

Also plenty of pundits doing their pre-season predictions

This would probably mean 7 English teams having the chance to qualify for the Champions League.
______________

This would be ridiculous. That's almost half the league - especially if you discount the 3 relegated teams. I.e. 7 out of 17 teams would be eligible for the CL. If that happened I would probably lose interest in football.

Arsenal fans would be the most disappointed as Wenger would suddenly be content with 7th place being the equivalent of a trophy!

4th place for Arsenal is the equivalent of winning the EPL

4thplace . Anything else to add to this debate rather then you're own delusions of granduer?

Bat, i think for Arsenal it might not be a bad thing to spend a few years out of the CL cycle. Might get rid of our asset stripping majority shareholder for starters.
