The winner of the three-month contest to succeed Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader will be announced on Saturday.

Sir Keir Starmer is the favourite to be elected in a ballot of party members, trade unionists and other supporters.

The ex-director of public prosecutions, who became an MP in 2015, is up against fellow shadow cabinet member Rebecca Long-Bailey and Wigan MP Lisa Nandy.

The party will also choose a new deputy leader, with education spokeswoman Angela Rayner seen as the frontrunner.

The results of both elections are due to be announced at 10.45 BST.

Jeremy Corbyn's wife has accused the media of having "vilified" the Labour leader and said he was "attacked by his own party" during his time in charge.

In a rare public intervention, Laura Alvarez also told The Mirror the NHS would have been better prepared for coronavirus if Mr Corbyn had been PM.

Mr Corbyn is standing down after nearly five years as Labour leader, with his successor being unveiled on Saturday.

He told supporters it had been the "honour of my life" to lead the party.

In an e-mail to members and activists, he said he was sorry he had failed to return the party to power but suggested Labour, under his leadership, had "changed the agenda on austerity and how the economy is run".

A number of whisky bottling plants which suspended work due to coronavirus are set to reopen.

The GMB Scotland union says facilities owned by Edrington, Inver House and North British have approached staff about coming back to work.

Other firms in the whisky and spirits industry, such as Diageo and Grants, have kept open plants with scaled-back operations.

Trade unions argue that all production should be halted due to Covid-19.

Edrington said a "controlled restart" with a significantly reduced number of staff would allow it to sustain the business and help safeguard employment.

The 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the fifth edition of the Gold Cup, the soccer championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), and the 15th overall CONCACAF tournament. It was held in Los Angeles, Miami, and San Diego in the United States. The format of the tournament changed from 1998; it was expanded to twelve teams, split into four groups of three. The top two teams in each group would advance to the quarter-finals. Peru and Colombia were invited from CONMEBOL, and the Republic of Korea were invited from AFC.

With all three games in Group D ending in ties and Canada tied with the Republic of Korea on every tiebreaker, a coin toss was used. Canada won and advanced to the quarter-finals. They went on to win their first and to date only Gold Cup title. In the quarter-finals, Canada upset defending champions Mexico in golden goal extra time 2–1. They defeated Trinidad and Tobago in the semi-finals 1–0 after Craig Forrest saved a first-half penalty. Already assured as CONCACAF champions, Canada topped invitees Colombia 2–0 in the final.

The tournament marks the only time a CONCACAF Gold Cup has been won by a country other than the United States or Mexico, and the only time in the tournament's history that neither the United States nor Mexico made the final.

A landlady whose pub was shut down after police were called to a "lock-in" during the coronavirus lockdown said she "wished she'd kept the door shut".

Mandy Mallinson said she had been celebrating her husband's birthday at the Blue Bell Inn in Nottinghamshire.

She admitted six regulars had turned up uninvited, but insists it was not a planned "lock-in".

A councillor said the pub had been visited on successive weekends over concerns it was "flouting" rules.

It is "inevitable" more health workers will die from coronavirus, the UK's largest nursing union has said.

Theresa Fyffe, director of the Royal College of Nursing in Scotland, was speaking after the deaths of nurses Aimee O'Rourke and Areema Nasreen, who had both tested positive for the virus.

She said the circumstances of both deaths had to be reviewed and protocols for frontline staff examined.

England's chief nurse Ruth May has also raised fears over more deaths.

Stephen Kenny is to succeed Mick McCarthy as Republic of Ireland manager with immediate effect, the Football Association of Ireland has announced.

Kenny, 48, was already set to replace McCarthy, 61, after Euro 2020 but the postponement of the play-offs and the tournament itself until 2021 because of Covid-19 has accelerated the FAI plan.

McCarthy was appointed for a second spell in charge in November 2018.

A statement said both men had agreed the Under-21 manager should take over.

People across the UK appear to be adhering to social distancing rules despite the temptation to go out in the sunny weather, Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove has said.

Police face "one of their biggest challenges" of the coronavirus lockdown as the weather improves.

Mr Gove told the government's briefing that people must respect the lockdown.

He said there was "evidence to suggest" there has been a lower level of compliance among young people.

Brighton and Hove City Council tweeted on Saturday that too many people were meeting up with friends on the seafront, making social distancing "impossible".
