The culinary term fond, French for "base" or "foundation", refers to this sauce, although it is also sometimes used to describe the browned food bits instead (commonly in the United States). Burned pieces should not be confused with fond, which is dark brown.

I suspected that Dean Henderson leaving would cause problems for Sheffield Utd this season. There were many times where they scraped 1-0 wins or 0-0 draws because their defence was so solid. Sacking Wilder would be pointless though, as they're basically already relegated.

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez produced a near-flawless display to unpick Callum Smith and take the British fighter's WBA world super-middleweight title.

The Mexican, 30, shone in Texas as he all but froze Smith out over 12 rounds with calculated pressure, spiteful punching and evasive defensive work.

Smith, 30, struggled to land anything heavy and was told by his corner he had "one more round" after a torrid ninth.

He admirably fought on but lost 119-109 119-109 117-111 on the judges' cards.

The Eden Project in Cornwall has been forced to close after flooding caused several landslips at the site.

Heavy rain across the wider region on Friday meant some people had to evacuate their homes.

A spokesman said managers closed the site as a precaution and were assessing the damage.

The botanical gardens have been open since 3 December, when the county was categorised in tier one, the mildest of the coronavirus restrictions.

Advice on when the site is likely to reopen will be available on the company's website, the spokesman added.

If a foreign coach had put up the dreadful year Chris Wilder has, do you think he'd have lasted this long? He'd be getting bashed by the English media too!

The media embarrassed themselves last winter by hyping Wilder up & going on about Sheff Utd for top four, all because he had two decent months lol! (they did the same thing with Phil 'next Arsenal/England manager' Brown in 2008)

Watford are set to appoint Xisco Munoz as their new manager after the sacking of Vladimir Ivic.

Spaniard Xisco is currently the manager of Georgian top-flight side Dinamo Tbilisi.

The 40-year-old would become the Vicarage Road club's fifth manager in just over a year if he is appointed.

Ivic was sacked with Watford fifth in the Championship, four points off second-placed Bournemouth and nine behind leaders Norwich.

He had taken charge of the Hornets in August.
