Sweden's Armand Duplantis added a new world record to his pole vault world title, clearing 6.21m in a virtuoso performance in Oregon.

The 22-year-old Olympic champion had gold secured with a first-time clearance of 6m. None of his rivals managed higher than 5.94m.

Duplantis then beat his own world record of 6.20m - set in Belgrade in March - at the second attempt.

It is the fifth time he has broken the world record.

His success marked the first time the record has been set outdoors since the legendary Sergey Bubka cleared 6.14m for the first time in Sestriere, Italy, in 1994.

Duplantis, who grew up in Louisiana, celebrated with a front flip in front of a packed crowd, kissed girlfriend Desire Inglander, before being embraced by his father Greg, a former top-class pole vaulter himself.

"It was something that I really wanted and needed," Duplantis said to BBC World Service of the one major medal missing from his collection.

Aaron Ramsey has left Juventus after the Serie A club announced that the Wales midfielder's contract has been "mutually terminated".

Last week the 31-year-old was left out of Juventus' squad for their pre-season tour to the United States.

Ramsey joined the Italians on a free transfer in 2019, with the ex-Arsenal man reported to be on £400,000 a week.

But Ramsey spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Scottish side Rangers.

He was in the final year of his lucrative contract at Juve but is now free to sign for another club as he seeks game time to prepare for Wales' World Cup campaign in Qatar next November.

Linfield defender Matthew Clarke says the club have an opportunity to complete a "historic" victory in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier with Bodø/Glimt on Wednesday.

Kirk Millar's audacious goal gave the Irish Premiership champions a 1-0 first-leg win over the Norwegian champions at Windsor Park last week.

"We'll have a real hunger and desire to get over the line," said Clarke.

"We will go there with a gameplan and hopefully it is a positive outcome."

Blues winger Millar charged the ball down well before composing himself and delivering an exquisite chip over visiting goalkeeper Nikita Haikin with seven minutes remaining of the first leg of the second qualifying round tie in Belfast.

The Norwegian champions enjoyed wins against Celtic and Roma in last season's Europa Conference League but must now come back from a goal down if they are to progress in the Champions League.

A study of 39,000 video gamers has found "little to no evidence" time spent playing affects their well-being.

The average player would have to play for 10 hours more than usual per day to notice any difference, it found. And the reasons for playing were far more likely to have an impact.

Well-being was measured by asking about life satisfaction and levels of emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger and frustration.

The results contradict a 2020 study.

Conducted by the same department at the Oxford Internet Institute - but with a much smaller group of players - the 2020 study had suggested that those who played for longer were happier.

"Common sense says if you have more free time to play video games, you're probably a happier person," said Prof Andrew Przybylski, who worked on both studies.

"But contrary to what we might think about games being good or bad for us, we found [in this latest study] pretty conclusive evidence that how much you play doesn't really have any bearing whatsoever on changes in well-being.

"If players were playing because they wanted to, rather than because they felt compelled to, they had to, they tended to feel better."

Sri Lanka's former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa is expected to return to the country from Singapore, a Sri Lankan lawmaker says.

Cabinet spokesperson Bandula Gunawardena told reporters on Tuesday that Mr Rajapaksa was not in hiding but the date of his return was not known.

The former leader fled Sri Lanka after mass unrest over an economic crisis.

Many protesters say he mishandled the nation's finances, leading to soaring prices of essential goods.

Mr Rajapaksa left Sri Lanka on 13 July for the Maldives, before making his way to Singapore on 14 July.

He submitted his resignation shortly after his arrival, which was formally accepted by the Sri Lankan cabinet on 15 July.

The former president travelled with his wife and two bodyguards. He no longer has legal immunity as a head of state.

Singapore says the ousted president did not ask for political asylum when he arrived.

McDonald's has put up the price of its cheeseburger for the first time in more than 14 years, due to growing cost pressures.

The fast food chain said its UK restaurants would be adding between 10p and 20p to a number of items.

The price of a cheeseburger has increased from 99p to £1.19.

Companies are facing increased costs for things like fuel, wages and ingredients, with prices rising at their fastest rate for 40 years.

In an email to customers, McDonald's UK and Ireland chief executive Alistair Macrow said the company was facing "tough choices" about its prices.

"We understand that any price increases are not good news, but we have delayed and minimised these changes for as long as we could," he said, adding that some prices were unaffected and some would continue to vary across the company's restaurants.
