The company announced that the most popular tier of its Netflix-style video games system - available to PC and Xbox players - would rise by more than 50% from £14.99 to £22.99 per month.
Reacting on social media, loads of fans said they had cancelled their Game Pass subscriptions, with some reporting the service's cancellation page had crashed due to demand.
BBC Newsbeat has asked Microsoft if the outage was linked to a surge in visits.

Experienced striker Josh Magennis has returned to the Northern Ireland squad for this month's 2026 World Cup qualifying fixtures.
The 35-year-old Exeter City player has scored 12 international goals across 82 caps but had not featured in manager Michael O'Neill's squad since November 2024.
Northern Ireland will host Slovakia at Windsor Park on Friday, 10 October, before welcoming Germany to the same venue three days later, with O'Neill also able to bring back a number of players after injury.
The side were missing a host of players for the opening fixtures of the campaign when they beat Luxembourg and lost to Germany last month.
Daniel Ballard, Conor Hazard, Brodie Spencer, Ciaron Brown and Paul Smyth are all back from injury.
There is also a return for Rangers winger Ross McCausland, who is currently on loan at Aris Limassol in Cyprus, although first-choice goalkeeper Pierce Charles is still out with a shoulder problem and there is no place in the squad for strikers Dale Taylor or Ronan Hale.

Ange Postecoglou faced a supporter backlash as his winless start as Nottingham Forest head coach continued with a desperate Europa League defeat by Midtjylland.
The visitors gatecrashed Forest's party as European football returned to the City Ground for the first time in 29 years.
Postecoglou has failed to win any of his opening six games since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo last month and home fans chanted that he would be "sacked in the morning" as this game headed towards its closing stages.
Midtjylland's Ousmane Diao and Mads Bech cashed in on poor Forest defending to convert from set-pieces in the first half - underlining the Danes' reputation as dead ball kings.
Dan Ndoye scored in between those goals to briefly haul the hosts level, but Midtjylland - second in the Danish Superliga - were back in front two minutes later.
This was a stuttering performance from Forest - who lost Murillo to injury again - against a physical Midtjylland side who denied Postecoglou's men any momentum and rhythm.
The energetic Elliot Anderson tried to drive Forest forward and Chris Wood had two goals disallowed.
However, Valdemar Byskov added a late third for the visitors and that was the cue for Forest fans to turn their anger on Postecoglou. Wood's stoppage-time penalty pulled a goal back.

Actress Dame Patricia Routledge, known for playing Hyacinth Bucket in classic TV sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, has died at the age of 96.
She also starred in Alan Bennett's TV monologues and played BBC One's amateur sleuth Hetty Wainthropp, while also enjoying an acclaimed stage career.
Her agent told the PA news agency on Friday that she died "peacefully in her sleep this morning surrounded by love".
The BBC's director of comedy was among those paying tribute, saying she "made millions laugh and left a legacy that will always be remembered with gratitude and admiration".

Keeping Up Appearances creator Roy Clarke said in a statement to BBC News: "I'm sorry, as I'm sure so so many people will be to hear of the death of Patricia Routledge.
"It's a fortunate coincidence to find your scripts in the hands of so accomplished an actor. She was a singer and it showed in the way she could use her voice without music. It was an instrument.
"On top of such skills she was also a very fine physical clown.
"With those talents she took my scripts to the heights. I can only salute her talents and regret their passing."
Dame Patricia was best known as Hyacinth Bucket - pronounced "bouquet" - a comic creation who lampooned the extremes of English pretension and snobbery.
"She's an absolute monster and I enjoyed playing her enormously," the actress once said.
Keeping Up Appearances ran from 1990 to 95, and the following year she was voted the nation's most popular actress at the BBC's 60th anniversary awards.

The actress appeared numerous times at Chichester Festival Theatre near her home in West Sussex, and the venue's artistic director Justin Audibert and executive director Kathy Bourne paid tribute to her as "irreplaceable, inimitable and unforgettable".
"Patricia Routledge was a supreme actress. Her talents were particularly associated with comedy, though her range was far greater than that," they said in a statement.
"She was not only a national treasure, she was a Chichester treasure too - a stalwart supporter of the city and community, and of the Festival Theatre whose stage she graced for five decades."
She was made an OBE in 1993, a CBE in 2004, and a dame in 2017.
