Don't think anyone, Wenger, Ferguson or Mourinho would not have sold RVP. A player wants to leave the club, stated this publicly, and most of all 24 million now, or nothing come 12 months.
What he did wrong was not replace him with a 24 million pound striker, Giroud is decent, but not going to get anywhere near RVP's goal haul.
We will lose more than £24mil by not qualifying for the Champs League this season. So did the sale of RVP make financial sense?
The answer is... no!
If you're going to sell a player like Van Persie, you do one of two things:
1. Replace him as close to like for like as possible, even if that means paying over the odds.
2. Sell him abroad, even if that means he goes for less money .
That the board did neither of these shows that they care more about money than the supporters.
I Lost....
So did Arsenal AGAIN
It still hurts me seeing him play for United. Almost makes me fall out of love with the game. Never felt like that before, but I guess that is what Wenger and/or the board decided to do.
Has anyone read our Commercial Director, Tom Fox, latest interview?
Jesus H!
A summation of words showing exactly what's wrong with modern Arsenal!
Tom Fox... another non-football person at the club.
Clueless
If I am honest I was bitter when he left us for United but don't think under the circumstancies we have to deal within the club we couldnt avoid it.
If you say that we should keep him until the summer I tend to agree with you.
That would have meant we play hard ball with him. On the other hand I would have prefered we did play hard ball with Fabregas who is the greatest loss of all and we had the chance to do so if you may remember that he was under contract until 2015.
Yeah Serial, would you be so kind to give us a link to the interview.
I don't even want to read it.
I still think selling RVP was correct. His injury laden career will catch up to him again. And for a team like Man U to miss him when they rely on him would be funny.
But saying that I would have preferred he went abroad and we got a quality striker........
Better memories than now, that's for sure
He doesn't look like he is getting injured any time soon. In fact his injury record over the past 24 months has been impeccable.

Oh good god, even the link is disturbing. God knows what is inside it.
Thanks Serial, I will read it later because I am at work now.

Can't even bring myself to open that link.
You have to read it. It really is stunning stuff!
“When they see that we can attract – even though we haven’t won a trophy in seven years – one of the top global brands in the world for the type of money and financial commitment they’re making, that makes our fans feel proud.
------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely awful
Key points:
Our objective is to make fans proud of the club
Van Persie leaving has not damaged the club
Emirates deal proves we do not need trophies to remain a big brand
Arsenal fans are proud because we have a shiny stadium
Arsenal fans are proud because we have young players such as Gnabry, Ox and WALCOTT
Geoff and the boys will have fun with this interview on Saturday. My god we are such a laughing stock.
