Nerves are going to be jangling now for Town..5 points from 23 rd place....

Back on topic.
Nothing to argue with there Mirf.
Could Lillis possible have that 'Buxton DNA' we so desperately need right now.
Nothing fancy, No Facade,

Neville might turn out like that too..I don't know.
But I agree, All the others are out of work for a reason.
previous success doesn't mean it's nailed on they bring that ethic with them.

It's not looking too good at the 'bottom' now is it.
Glad he's gone, But surely a month too late at least.
Who ever gets the nod, doesn't have much time to sort things out now.

Mirf, Phil Neville? I think Town have learnt their lesson hiring a rookie manager!

perversely, we need a manager for the players we have, as they are the ones who are going to get us out of this mess now. hence, someone who can motivate an existing bunch of players without buying their way to success.

that should narrow it down a bit...

I can't believe that Hoyle has done this so close to the window shutting , but is this part of the plan sack him just before the window so he has an excuse not to spend of any of that 8m that he got for Rhodes , he says he's not going to rush the next manager, but he sacked Grayson because we are running out if time and getting sucked into a scrap at the bottem , but he now seems to think its ok to risk leaving lily in charge a man who's never been a manager apart from a little spell at Halifax , this points to me dean wants to do this on the cheap by not spending anymore on managers or players this season , it's a big risk he's taking that in my few will not pay off , 8m in the bank dean spend before its too late mate .

Surely Steve Pressley has no chance of landing the job at Town. - Although only 39, he's no experience of playing or managing outside the Scottish league and even this is very limited. His first management job was at Falkirk who he joined during early February 2010, but he was unable to prevent them being relegated into the Scottish First Division and he then failed to get them promoted back into the SPL the following year, in what was his first full season in charge.

According to "Sky-Bet" Pressley is rated 12/1, well behind Adkins 11/8, Coyle 5/1, Barker 8/1 and Lillis 10/1, whilst "Paddy Power" has Adkins at 5/4, Coyle 3/1, Pressley 8/1 and Parkinson & Di Canio 14/1.

So Jacko, being realistic, I reckon 38 has just as much chance as landing the job as Elvis.

LV69,

As far as "Rookies" are concerned you've obviously never heard of Darren Ferguson, who got Peterborough promoted up into League One in his very first full year of management and then followed this up the year after, by taking them up into the Championship.

Wor Lee was also a "Rookie" manager with Town, but it didn't prevent him from taking us on a record breaking 43 match unbeaten run did it? - and had he remained in charge and had half the luck Grayson had at Wembley, he also would have got us promoted last season as well.

So being realistic, I reckon Wor Lee has just as much chance of making a return to Town, as Steve Pressley has of landing the job.

"...and had he remained in charge and had half the luck Grayson had at Wembley, he also would have got us promoted last season as well. "

Mirf ? He'd already fluffed it at Millwall, fluffed it again at Old Trafford..and was fluffing it yet again with just 4 wins in his last 12 games in League 3, despite having the biggest transfers fund of anyone, the largest squad of players than anyone.....and that's ignoring some of the most dire, boring and aimless football I've ever seen in 50 years of watching Town.

I think you need a reality check mate

3 points tonight would be massive for Town right now, it would give the players confidence in Lillis and Co., which was sadly lacking with the previous two managers..

also, it would move us up to 16th, just 6 points behind Brighton and Burnley who are joint 7th...a defeat , while not the end of the world, would make it increasingly difficult Deano.

the phil neville call is different due to the fact that he can easily still play at this level..perhaps for 2/3 more seasons..
he brings that to the team.. if you are looking for someone to win the ball and keep hold of it, who can be the "man" on the pitch and "off" it, then its him.. His career make lee clarks, look like my "football career"...
He was under fergurson for long enough to learn quite a bit and as gary has the england job and sky sports pundit, phil will have to do something different..
As for "managers" overall, i think mark might easily do as well for us as anyone else at this moment.. There isnt going to be any money , no signings and its as you were.. Mark got em shifting a bit on saturday, lets see what tonight and saturday produces by way of team and personal performances.. Last nights results show just what this division is all about, its about time town started producing slightly "odd" results, but in our favour..

MIRF,
I spoke to Elvis the other night and he is waiting for the Villa job, or even the Chelsea job as there is only him and Lord Lucan who havent had a go at that one..
The above comment might give you a clue as to what I think of 98% of football mangers and really anyone else employed to talk sh-te about what is a simple game, played/run mainly by half wits...

Jacko,

It would have been third time lucky, third time lucky..................... no matter who would have been in charge.

As for dire, aimless and boring football, you've obviously not been watching Town during Grayson's last twelve matches in charge.

38,

I agree with your sentiments about football managers. Trouble is most Chairmen seem to think that you have to have played football at Pro level to have any chance of being a good/successful manager.

I reckon there are loads of knowledgeable footy fans out there who could probably do better than most of those currently plying their wares.

Lets be honest, ex pro footballers such as Dowie, Bruce, Sturrock, Holdsworth, Boothroyd, Curle, Allen, Blackwell, McLeish, Appleton, Hughes and & Allardyce etc, have never struck me has being all that capable up top.

Lets face it, for every decent players they sign they also bring in a couple of dead legs who are usually consigned to the reserves, or moved on quick, and this happens at all levels of the game.

Surely, if future signing are scouted properly there should be a very good chance of them being successfully integrated into the team, or am I missing something?

Power to the fans I say and b-llocks to all the ex pros currently touting for jobs, because it's just like one big happy family - you look out for me and I'll see you all right somewhere down the line.

Also in what other occupation/industry can you be an abject failure and still walk out with a cool million or two, for less than two years work?

As for top managers such as Fergie, Moyes & Wenger being paid over £6 million/year, the World's gone mad, because no one is worth that sort of a return.

I reckon admission fees should be slashed to £10 maxm. in the Premiership and all wages capped at £500,000 absolute tops - we might then get some perspective and sense back into the game.

Clibbins on now...alarming decline in results...and performances...Beaten convincingly at Watford...Dean went away to have a think...then made his decision..

all kind of applications...incl some from playstation ??

sat down, looked at things and where we want to go , looked at applicants we've received...we need to work harder and smarter being on the budget we are.

No imminent appointment, could take a while.......

More pressure on us being on a poor run, and being near the bottom of the league...long way to go yet, so not going to rush.

We're looking for someone to share the vision for the club...we can't afford to buy the finished players...so a manager who can recruit/scout etc.

fans talked about Adkins...no comment on Nigel.

We have our list, and we are starting to work down it...had to make a judgement call on Grayson. We can compete, some good players...but confidence has gone.

Jack Hunt is on a long term contract, we don't need to sell...but we are a selling club...if any offer came in, we would have to consider it...when it suits us.

If the Bookies (Stan James & Sky Bet) are to be believed then Steve Pressley is now 5/4 favourite, with Adkins second at 3-1 and Mark Lillis and Owen Coyle next, both on 12/1.

I honestly can't understand why an unknown second Division Scottish manager who is devoid of any English league experience, who has not won any honours to date, is even being considered a suitable applicant.

If this is the case then it would be a gross insult to Mark Lillis, if somehow Pressley landed the job and it would also confirm my fears that Hoyle and his side kicks are absolutely clueless, when it comes to choosing the next manager.

It would also indicate that Hoyle and Co want a manager who is used to having little or no transfer budget, who will be prepared to do as he is told and not complain about the lack of available funds.

I reckon their is no smoke without fire and the Bookies must have some good reason for linking Pressley so strongly with the vacant Town job.

I agree Mirf...assuming Lillis has put his hat in...it would be an insult to set on an unknown rookie in place of a good candidate already in house.

But, is Lillis in the frame, has he said this ?

To be honest I'd be happy if Town deferred the appointment for a while if Lillis is going to continue as he has started withe the team...
