I am a sucker for Arsenal players who win the golden boot tbh.

So we're sacking a load more scouts then - this time across Europe. Not handling it very well either, if the Mirror is to be believed (holding fire with that then).

Could be that we're simply restructuring our network? Would be a bit off to do this under the current situation though.

That said, our scouts have hardly been knocking it out the park the last decade, so you could say it's no big loss.

Whatever the reason, I really hope it's not another indication we're to rely more and more on Raul's little black book to 'find' us talented players...

Arsenal were structured to maximise moneyball under Wenger. That meant no big buys and no youth product. Buy undervalued foreign stars, develop them and then sell them on. A model copied by Southampton, Leicester, Watford etc. So I assume our scouting network still works that way. There has been a real shift under Raul. There is a real attempt to develop youth system under Mertesacker and inculcate a culture like they do at Barca. Arteta obviously sets that mould. Then buy bigger names starts to sprinkle a bit fairy dust on top. Like Barca. So there really isn't a need to employ a scout to watch division 2 in France anymore. Thats how I see it anyway.

What's the point of scouts when football is bcd?
They will all be re-employed when they are allowed to scout again.

I think there is more to it than that as Lex suggests. A lot of scouts have a long term relationship with the club. Making them redundant while we are in a lockdown makes it easier for the best to be poached by other clubs.

Willock and Lacazette with nice goals yesterday.

Encouraging!

Arteta has now had his preseason.

Will be an interesting XI when we face City
Tierney or Saka (or Kola)
Nketiah or Laca (or Auba)
2 from Luiz, Mari, Mustafi, Holding.

Xhaka and Ceballos will be CM partnership probably.

Auba's goal was good as well.

Mustafi/Luiz to be first choice? Think they work really well together.

I really do not think Mustafi should be in the first XI beyond the end of this season (or next season if we can't sell). I know he'd been performing well under Arteta, but he has caused far too many errors and mistakes over the last 3.5 years to be excused just because he's had a few months of good form.

Let's be smart and not offer him a new contract.

We really need better if we want to be competing again.

I am all for giving any player to turn his form around under Arteta. Even Xhaka.

Though imo Xhaka has shown any resemblance of that for the last few weeks of the season before the shut down compared to some promise by Mustafi.

*has not

Xhaka
Ceballos
Ozil
Holding
Cédric
Mustafi
Chambers
Kola
Elneny
Mkhi

All need to go

Torreira, Laca and Auba can all leave too if they want.

Should just start all over again instead of building on a shiiiiiit team
