2. We had no one to come off the bench to change things.
Yesterday I was screaming out for Shaq to come on and be the focual point, when you're down to 10 men you have one man as a solo striker, Shaq has more pace than Adey at any point in his career, and the defence were 2 on 1, he would have been ideal to chase balls down and make the back 4 of Basel turn and think twice
Then he brought on Benny

I'm still annoyed now
He might not have scored but he would have been full of running like Carroll was, that never give up attitude would have been ideal
Good shout Ruel, I think Shaq coming on would have been interesting! There were many on here wanting Benny on to bring some needed pace on the left so I can understand him coming on but in hindsight this was not the best move.
The point is though, we are talking of Benny or Shaq coming on, both hardly experienced game changers. Our bench is weak, yea we have injuries but last season we were much stronger.

Agree mate, only two players for me were Huddlestone and Shaq
I thought the sub was spot on personally. Benny gives you the natural width that Naughton doesn't, and with having to go with Hudd at CB, Holtby and Carroll in CM for the first time, 10 men and no natural wide midfielders it was essential.
The only problem I had with it was that Hudd and Benny didn't start the game

You cant blame Levy for AVB not wanting another striker.
And if anyone tells me Levy wouldnt allow him one then (a) i wont believe it & (b) what manager would accept the fact they couldnt buy a striker from all the TW's?
On BAE, i agree with HRH when he says BAE gives you the natural width. Naughton seems petrified of crossing the half way line and doesnt over-lap like BAE does. BAE is also better at defending and appears to be just as fast.
Naughton is a RB by trade so its needlessly playing a round peg in a square hole. If BAE was injured then i'm happy with Naughton as cover but how can AVB think Naughton is our club's best LB is beyond me.
cant be bothered to get involved in this article. would just end up arguing with everyone about everything
What has your ire in particular Chronic?
Ok we never bought a striker but what about Dempsey, he go us 2 goals didn't he? If his goals were a gift then so were Basel's
As for Adebayor. He ain't a joke at all. It's only because he did a ridiculous penalty that some fans are coming out with that "lazy, useless, joke" stuff about him. Before that penalty, also for the last couple of games, he has been working a hell of a lot better than earlier this season
just wondering what specifically daniel levy has to do with the game that unfolded yesterday
Chronic
I think the Levy connection is because of the lack of striker options.
We did have another striker on the bench though, albeit inexperienced, that we didnt feel the need to call on.
Goal-scoring wasn't the problem in this tie. Conceding was the issue. Aint that right, Sandy
Goal-scoring wasn't the problem in this tie.
===============
And neither was it against Everton. If you score 2 goals at home you should win the match.
goal scoring hasnt been the issue all season.
people banging on about new striker is generic and lazy.
we should start focusing attention on not conceding from set pieces.
Offered me 4 goals against Basle over the tie before it kicked off - I'd have very happily taken it. Needing to score 5 in a European quarter final is no good
Yes, we need a striker, but we have enough defensive talent in this squad to make the unit work. We need to faccking work on it!!
I think Chronic is either Levy, Levy's right hand man or Levy's relative.......it is blantantly obvious to all Spurs fans and has been since Berba and Keane played up front for us a few years ago now that we seriously lack in strikeforce. Levy sold Berba and failed to replace him since. Ade =
Defoe mostly this season = too.
Really p1sses me off that we have the worst strikers in the top half of the league, year after year our goal difference takes a point off us when points are equal.
Sort it Levy if you do read this forum!
AVB's
I repeat, it is not Levy's fault that AVB did not want another striker.
AVB clearly did want one though Chicken. Unless you're suggesting all that Damiao guff was all smoke and mirrors.
Chicken, I'm sorry and am maybe wrong, but until shown evidence to the contrary, I reckon AVB was told v early on he has to make do with what we have striker-wise. Of course he would have liked £25m on the table for a top striker, what manager wouldn't.

yes we do need a striker.
however stop deluding yourself that it is the answer to all our problems.
we manage to score at least 2 goals in most matches.
unfortunately we concede too many.

AVB openly admitted he didnt want any more strikers as he planned to onlly use one up front anyway. There are quotes floating around to this effect.
--------
There almost certainly are Chicken, but I don't believe this was his actual stance. If he came out and said we needed a striker and we didn't get one then...
Not sure we can believe the quotes he provides for the papers. It's his actions that speak louder and the move for Damiao, however unlikely, point towards wanting one.
