When you see a post that puts the boot into benefit claimants, think twice before you like it because let me tell you, we are ALL only three mortgage payments away from disaster.
Hmm I lost my job 3 years ago and at that time was living with my wife and kids with the mortgage. I was entitled to £62 per week after 24 years of paying tax and national insurance.
Irked when that MP said he could live on £52 a week.
Bitter, yes your darn right I'm bitter and with good reason
Germany invested and now look at their economy history has shown she made all the wrong decisions.
Somebody must have been voting for her
--------------------------------------
the uk is a democracy of the contented.
its gerrymandered to be so.
you only ever have to keep between 25-30% of the population happy, as devisive as thatcher was she represented her class, and the south well - and they voted en masse for her
The only thing that will out thing to normal levels is building more social housing and not selling off the stock. So there is a viable alternative to private.
This bedroom tax is purely designed to get the poor out of London, so they can sell the land and houses to Russians and Arabs making a short term packet for the government.
Castle read the link fella! The industry had EVERY opportunity to reinvest! Sometimes the steel plants were badly located and the cost of ore was additionally expensive! The demand for steel fell massively so how the feck do you INVEST in more efficient plant and produce less material and sell that material at a lower price yet retain profit that your werent making and keep everybody employed?
Seriously!!!
Dos / your right - fair dos guys, just couldn't understand the slating she took yet was continually voted in.
As your right says, maybe in south England it woukd be a diff reaction
Ally,
You highlight the actions of nu labour like its supposed to excuse things. They are almost as bad as the Tories as far as I'm concerned.
but to say the bedroom tax will work? Jeez, you must be joking.
Im no fan of Thatcherism although she did do a few good things but is anybody of a similar age to me casting their minds back to 1979? Britain was not working, strikes, bodies not getting buried, Britain going cap in hand to the IMF because we were hugely in debt you to chronic mismanagement by Labour. You could argue that Labour was to blame and indeed the Heath government before for basically whisking Thatcher into power.
Like I say I did not like the majority of her principles but it was because of others in powere pre 1979 that she got in power.
All short term points. The same way every other country made money out of it. Our plants were ancient as were all our industries and equipment.

interesting so why did the government prior to Mrs T not do that?
Or the governments after her.
I would gladly see us double job seekers allowance and any other benefit for that matter. -
The country is running at a loss at record levels and we DOUBLE the benefit for no return!
If a company is failing do you subscribe they double their workforce but pay the same weekly wage but only request they do half the work
Aye Dave that makes sense
Rued the winter of discontent occurred because the miners hadn't had a wage rise in 14 years, yet inflation shot up massively. Now tell me how is that right?
How about the actually gave them a rightful wage and it wouldn't have happened. The system needed investment.
Harder times are coming. And I really hope it hits the people spouting their bile about scroungers the hardest. Then they can see what its like to be at the bottom of the pile. Then they can see how it feels when after doing everything the way you were told, there is no help for you.
These people think being a tax payer entitles you to commit murder and build a base on the moon They are in for a sharp shock. I was listening to 2 girls talk about it on the bus the other day. They were 16 or 17 max. Talking about how sick they were of getting tax taken off their pay to pay for scroungers.
The Duke they didn't have the cash. We had not long finished the second world war.
Thatcher found the oil, so had the opportunity unlike the others. All the Scandinavian countries invested heavily and ring-fenced the oil for future generations. Thatcher sold our off for short term gain.

The mines were losing vast amounts of money and the Unions had far too much power. Everyone was going on strike and we we had to rely on the army to empty bins. As I said Heath and Callaghan were instrumental in Thatcher coming to power.

marshall plan, rebuilt the ecconomies of japan and germany free gratis while its crippled us with repayments on loans to mend and make do.
any surprise the countries with the strongest industry and economies in the 70s and 80's were japan and germany - while the uk struggled.
it was too late after thatcher
Thatchers legacy is (in the words of arsemooth) "broken britain" - a country of greed, selfishness and inequality.
Actually you know what I think Aberdeen FC are solely responsible for the mess this country is in m
Castle - no point in me asking you to read the article then? Its all detailed in their!
IF YOU PRODUCE 100million tonnes and you increase productivity to produce 200million tonnes but can only sell 50million tonnes WTF is the point?
If you increase productivity through new equipment LESS people will be employed, if you increase your output beyond what you can sell you build STOCK this results in cut production in future months and a lowering of prices, so your new efficient equipment sits idle!
Now if you can explain how this makes sense then Im a monkeys uncle!

I agree with that completely
Yeah they had too much power... That'll be why they didn't get a wage rise in 14 years!!!!
They were right to strike at that time - 1979
Some of these closed mines are being re-opened in Yorkshire, but lots can't be as they tipped crap into the shafts. We are in need of coal again as as predicted the cheap foreign coal has gone through the roof.
