Your own choice Player of the year?

Why? You may as well say RVP did the same, he went a dozen games without a goal, but is still the top goalscorer. So when he had his purple patch that must have distorted the stats somewhat as well. Anyway the bottom line is Bale and RVP are clearly the top two players in the country
----------------------
You wanted to know why Blueisthecolour thought Bale was only good for 10 games despite scoring 24 goals in all comps so my point is that 8 of those goals came in just 5 games. That is obviously a fantastic run of form but it's player of the season and he got 1/3 of all his goals in 5 games so that says to me that he hasn't consistently performed.

True the same could be said of RVP but his goals are the reason united won the title with 4 games to spare imo whereas Bale has you challenging for 4th which is something i think your squad should be doing anyway.

Bale isn't a striker - to get 2-in-3 is quite phenomenal really.

He has been used left, right, behind the striker and still popped up with as many as he has.

Not saying he's 100% been the best player personally but his fellow pros have voted for him, so they obviously do

Bale has a free role most the time and usually plays CF or 2nd striker with freedom to roam from when I've seen him.

RVP is an out and out striker and Suarez is plays false 9 or free role.

So much Bale hatred

I wish the top clubs would rate him as lowly as ja606ers

Bale always has a main striker in the side in front of him - his goal tally is more impressive than the others in my opinion because of that.

Just based on scoring goals I think he'd walk it. Overall play not as good as others though for me

Suarez
Bale
Mata

This article should put it into perspective. In pretty much every way, including form, RVP and Suarez were more better than Bale.

Suarez should have got it but everyone hates him, second should have been RVP. Then it's a toss up between Mata and Bale, I personally prefer Mata as he is a better all round footballer.

And Benteke should have got YPOTY

No-one rates him lowly, it's just that Suarez, van Persie and Mata have been better than him over the course of the season. In stark contrast to Bale who has only really started to show what he is capable of for the last 3 months. I don't really care what you say it is a farce that he won both POTY & YPOTY awards, especially when you consider what time frame the awards were based within.

Whether you like to acknowledge it or not Suarez has been fantastic all season (even if people like Sandy refuse to see it). Player of the season has never previously taken personality into account so this faux moral outrage is quite funny. For his goals, assists and football alone Suarez gets it for me.

Saying that Van Persie is a close second and I can understand people who put him as their choice, other than a little rough patch he's been phenomonal all season and gifted United the title without a doubt.

Mata is again very close to those two with his assist count alone being ridiculous and he could still break the twenty goal barrier. Like the other two, Juan has been extremely consistant this season.

Arguements could be made for any of these three to have won POTY and all would have their validity. What is clear is that Bale has not outperformed these three players over the course of the season.

Yet Bale won the most voted from fellow pros. Amazing achievement as the 4th best footballer

The stats show he is.

Stats showed Leon Brittan was better than Xavi last year.

There's a moral in that somewhere

Listen, Bale won fair and square.

Not by a panel of Spurs-supporting or Welsh journals.

Not a skewed block vote on a Skysports poll.

Voted best player, by the people who's opinion carries most weight - his fellow professionals.

Have a moan about the writers award by all means, but the PFA one is totally meritocratic

Why don't you calm down a little? Sounds like you're protesting too much. The OP asked for everyone's own choice for POTY, people are merely expressing their opinions. No need to be so dogmatic.

I don't rate Bale lowly at all. It's just i don't think he has been as consistent over the entire season as other players.

Did I just get told to calm down by a Scouser?

I forgot what article I was on to be honest, there have been two today.

What I think is probably clear is that Bale is in the top 3 at very least if his pros have voted for him. People putting him at 6/7 are a tad bitter.

Personally I'd give it to RVP, with Suarez 3rd, but I don't think there's an awful lot in it.

Not seen enough of Mata to be honest. Whenever I have seen him v us he has been superb though, another class act

posted on 30/4/13

How can such an inconsistent player have scored 19 league goals in 29 games? Including many stunning goals.

The scousers saying he only turned up after xmas must have forgotten the mauling he gave them at the lane

Imo there have been four truly exceptional players in the league this year, Bale, Mata, Suarez and RVP. Any of those would have been worthy winners and you can argue all of their cases. However, to say Bale is undeserving or inconsistent stinks of bitterness and jealously

posted on 30/4/13

It's a tough one as all the players people are voting for are quality and right up there as the best the PL has to offer. For me, Bale is the most complete player out of the lot. He's getting better and is the most sought after for a reason. Suarez deserved the Player of the year title as he's been consistent all season but that biting incident messed it up for him. So my own 3 is Suarez, Bale, RVP.

Calm down, calm down!

I agree he's not 6th/7th best but very few people are rating him as such and those who are probably are on the wind up. Arguements can be made for any of Bale, Suarez, Mata and RVP to have gotten the award to be honest, I just feel the latter three have had more consistency.

Aggers Knuckles, RVP went through a big patch with scoring. There's also been games where Mata has been quiet. People forget Bale produced magic before the new year too, its only because he has gone through a great scoring period over the last few months, due to his positional change, that he's name is being more recognised. But if you have watched all Spurs games, you will have seen quality Bale performances throughout the season, when he was playing from his old left flank.
