No doubt about it Metro, though it was close between the 4, the majority of us believe it was the wrong choice, something which seemingly only Spurs fans don't get
The more posts i read on this article the more i believe my first post to be even more true than when i was writing it . And my post said:
"What is (not) the most surprising here is that the majority of posters on this article wouldnt include Bale in their Top 3, yet the people who know what they're talking about (their peers who vote) chose Bale in their Top 1.
I think this alone says a lot about some of the posters on these boards".

It is deserved Samir. Because he got voted it.

Yes, Bale has had a fantastic season, but as has been said, it is clear to all but Spurs fans that Suarez, and RvP and possibly Mata have all had better season.

You know Spurs fans didn't vote for him don't you?

For what it's worth my order is RVP, Bale, Suarez.
RVP would deserve the HRH player of the year as he got most votes.
See how it works?
I see the popularity contest one is STILL doing the rounds.
No explanation of how John Terry won this award. Or Keane and Van Nistelrooy, if this is the case
We know there are a disproportionate amount of partisan and bitter fans on forums. This one is no exception. Wummery from all sides makes it so.
Is it any surprise that many Liverpool fans don't see a Spurs player as worthy after we have leapfrogged them? And that they will almost to a man pick their own player?
Or Spurs/Arsenal/Chelsea fans put their own highly and the others lower?

Agree

Who is bitter? I've more than accepted Bale is a fantastic player, and I've said that a player from our biggest rivals over the past few decades, deserved the award?
What has you not voting got to do with anything? I'm talking more of your blind defence that he fully deserved to win it, whilst seemingly disregarding any one else's claim to it on the basis that professionals voted therefore they're correct. A theory which has since been debunked due to the vote for Giggs a few years back, among others.
Like I've said multiple times, he was arguably in the top 3 this season, and could possibly have ousted any one of Mata/Suarez/RvP depending on your order. I just think that there were at least 2 players better than him this season.
Why does that make me bitter?
Why does that make me bitter?

Purely and simply because you don't agree with the Jay. That's the way their brains work.

superb post Jay
Instead of saying 'well to be honest Jay, you're right, RVP and Suarez were in 5th gear for months before Bale joined the party' - they've convinced themselves that we're saying it simply because of some form of jealousy.
Perhaps we just don't think half a great season is better than 2 players with great 'full' seasons
Desperate Dan bribed the panel to get more transfer money for Bale..

Jay (and Samir) both said its clear to EVERYBODY but Spurs fans that Bale was behind the other two.
Well make that SOME Spurs fans, and the PFA just for starters. I think RVP was deserving of it, but I'm one man. If I was a pro he would have got my vote.
A few posters on an Internet forum aren't indicative of the football-supporting population as a whole . a disproprtionate amount of bitter fans are testament to that. You don't like the result, fair enough, but plenty obviously do.
Plenty saying he should be nowhere near it too, whereas my view is it was very tight. Who has the more balanced view in that respect? Evidence would suggest me, with the others being quite bitter

you haven't been reading the responses then have you.
Bale benefitted from the fact that some players aren't liked.
I'm sure many of Bales voters would have gone for Suarez if the reputation wasn't such a hinderance
Calling people bitter is your defence mechanism - we can see right through that
You're taking the result as hard truth. In reality, tactical voting DID occur - we have the proof of that because players came out publically and said it themselves

OK, let's say for arguments sake that players have suddenly decided that they won't vote for unpopular players despite voting for Terry, Keane and RVN to win it in the past....
If RVP and Suarez were the standout players, most of Suarez's votes would go to RVP. You know, the Ayer they voted for last season who clearly MUST be popular
Jeez. Some of the people on here are so bitter. This award isn't the be all and end all 'most fabulous bestest player like totally ever' award.
It's just one specific award for players and players only. And the majority of those players (which must number in the hundreds or maybe thousands if it's league footballers too rather than just the Premier league - maybe someone can clarify) voted Gareth Bale the best player in the PL.
Those players play against all the candidates and also watch scouting videos and generally understand the game better than most fans so whoever they pick is the correct candidate.
Maybe there should be a fans player of the year. I'd love to see how well that turns out.
Suarez didn't win. RVP didn't win. Who cares? It's not even to do with us fans. It's a footballers ONLY event.
Just move on and concentrate on more important things.
How did Suarez finish above RVP too if it was in popularity?
You do come out with some corkers you lot

Yeah everyone. Stop talking about football for god's sake.
HRH, anything to say about my post, I don't think I mentioned popularity, which you clearly seem hung up on.

C'mon Mr C. There's a difference between talking about football as we generally all do on this site and then there's talking about an event which happened 3 days ago which was as far as democracy goes a very fair result.
I just can't see why arguing that player A or player B should have won an event that had nothing to do with fans opinions in the first place is still ongoing.
Yeah I know Rob. They're just discussing the result. However trivial it may be.
Jay, the only real gripe I have with your otherwise balanced view is that you used previous winners to 'prove' how winners aren't deserved.
It isn't 3 men in a room. It is the whole of the profession. If they think a players deserves something then they have obviously seen something they like. You don't think Giggs deserved it in the past, I wouldn't have given it to him, but if we were pros we'd be voting for a candidate who less people would have voted for.
We don't always like the results of democratic votes, but that's life. You think it was close yourself, so it is no travesty

Which to me is no worse than people stating that 'because footballers decided it, it must be correct' They do, on occasion, get it wrong. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a 'spectacularly' wrong choice, as I say, an argument could be made for them all, and definitely not in the same vein as the Gigg's choice. But as I say, I don't think he should have won it this year, an opinion which is seemingly echoed by virtually everyone on this site, barring Spurs fans. I know that fans don't have a say in it, and that 'footballers should have better knowledge' but I think the fanbase is mostly a decent barometer, especially those that are impartial.
How many on here are impartial though?
Everyone has their bias, whether towards their own or against their rivals. I think we are far more partisan than players personally.
Players may have faced Suarez and thought "He's a good player, but he misses so many chances"
Or RVP and thought "He's done well but actually been worse than last year in a much better side"
Maybe with Bale they found him all round better. Clinical when he gets a chance. A constant threat despite how they line up. Someone they change their side to counter.
For all those who haven't included suarez in your top 3 - would this be the same if the bite incident hadn't happened?
