Mourinio has won a lot more. But moyes has got qualities and the players to be succesful, lets see whose the winner is in 3 years time.
Robb - Optimist Prime (U9808)
I can't reason with you. From facts and stats Jose is a better manager. Has been courted by every top team and is a world class manager. Has won everything that matters in club football. Moyes has won nothing managing a decent Everton side for 11 years. Jose is a better manager and that is a fact. So face it!
Who knows what the real truth is as to whether Mourinho was ever truly interested in the United job or not. It doesn't matter now anyway whether he was or he wasn't. But just because he says he wasn't doesn't mean it's the gospel truth like some Chelsea fans on here would try and have you believe. They hang onto his every word as if what he says is always the 100% truth. Jose is a clever man and will always say the right thing to suit the situation whether its the truth or not.
Next the Chelsea fans will be telling us that they 100% believe the other thing that Mourinho said the other day...that signing Shevchenko was his choice and that he wasn't forced onto him by RA
Of course he wasn't forced onto you Jose!...don't worry we believe you
Total mind games this from jose and even the most naive London blue fan will admit that.
In life you should never go back because the memory is never as good as the reality. Added to that what is he going back to do?
Win the league and retain it? Already done that.
Win domestic cups? Done that.
Win the European cup for the first time in the clubs history? Already done that without you Jose.
It's very similar to the Ronaldo and United situation and as part of the reason I would prefer Bale. But for a manager to go back with nothing to achieve - this proposed longevity and dynasty being touted around is very far fetched when you look at Jose and London blues endemic instability.
Personally I think Jose was out of options. I think he was considered for United, hence his cringeworthy flirting at ot after the Madrid game. Ultimately United didn't want him though and to be fair that's better for both parties.
I also think city are a far better proposition than London Blue but clearly they didn't fancy him either. City have the money, the ground, and the infrastructure to do great things compared to London Blue, who have some genuine talent but need a major overhaul in many areas. Plus it would have the added advantage of being a new challenge.
So for me this announcement is what it is and United won't even respond to it. Sour grapes or not United didn't want him and by the looks of it no one else did either.
I actually like Jose and am glad he is back but the decision to go back just doesn't stack up .

Nope, 4 upper body workouts, 1 legs, 1 cardio. The legs was the toughest one, was walking like kam after a night out for the following 4 days..
------
4 upper body per week with one rest day in between? Jeez, quick healer. I'm doing two per week with good results.
I still don't get why most United fans are not ready to accept that we hired a second rate manager. Because some stupid ethos, values they like to talk about.
I also think article is irrelevant.
I would never play for Liverpool because United are my one and only. It's irrelevant though because Liverpool don't actually want to sign me.
Ring any bells Jose? United didn't want him. That's been common knowledge from the men in power at the club for years, despite what some fans wanted.
Was there ever a possibilty that United did infact want him but he'd by then already decided he was going back to Chelsea?
Time will tell Jose and Chelsea why you shouldn't patch up with your ex.
Personally, I think Mourinho is probably the best manager of his generation, or in the top three at te wry least. Having said that, it was absolutely the right call for United not to hire him and part of me thinks he might not have been interested. Even with his ego, it would have been even bigger footsteps than his own at Chelsea that he would have had to follow in Ferguson. I highly doubt that he would have been given the same amount of time I believe United will give Moyes either.
I completely get why United went for Moyes, they are trying to keep to a model that has served then so well. It will always be a risk though as the model relied on someone as brilliant as Ferguson and it remains to be seen what Moyes is like when he has top class players at his disposal. I have never particularly liked his brand of football, but that may well change now he is dealing with better players.
Moyes plays hoofball against better or similar teams.
He also refuses to play strikers and United is all about playing with at least 2 strikers against every opposition.
How many times have we seen Moyes play Tim Cahill up front because he wanted to park the bus.??
We should just accept that we hired a second grade manager.
Rafael that's stupid because there has been quite a lot of occasions where managers have gone back and done very well, and also it's a totally different situation than with other teams, you don't seem to grasp the actual buzz of the whole club, staff, players and fans now. Also in the time he has been away we have both been winning loads of stuff regularly.
It's a totally different scenario and it really is easier to fail than suceed with us, Mourinho is Chelsea and Chelsea is Mourinho, so you'll probably be in for a shock if out of sour grapes you're hoping it will go wrong due to a old catchphrase.

United are trying the impossible. United were successful because of what Ferguson achieved and his reputation and his ethos and character. The only way to continue this again is to clone Ferguson and get a younger one. And even then success is not guaranteed. Ferguson was a special type of manager and was unique. United cannot and should not try to replicate this with a manager who is not Ferguson. Moyes will never be the best manager in the game and in my opinion he is not good enough. United should have employed a winner and someone who is strong and capable enough to manage Utd. Gill said we needed a manager with European experience, so I am baffled as to why we got Moyes. Or was it that, we was rejected by another manager with European experience? Simply put, things don't add up. Gill said the candidate needed to have proven experience at the highest level and European experience. So was it that Jose rejected Utd?
"Ferguson was a special type of manager and was unique. United cannot and should not try to replicate this with a manager who is not Ferguson. "
I actually said this all through last season, I think it is dangerous and I probably would have gone the other way and tried to find someone very different to Ferguson.
It is a risk, definitely. Anyone following Ferguson is though. United should be applauded for giving someone like Moyes the opportunity and I do think he is pretty much as close to Ferguson in his earlier years as you can get.
It will be difficult to get the balance right though because you absolutely definitely have to give him time. At the same time, he is taking over a very different United to the one that Ferguson took over and in a very different footballing landscape. Time is something in football that is more precious now than it has ever been.

I pretty much agree with everything you said but I just feel the type of person Jose is and the ego the man has the opportunity to manage such a club as United would be far too hard for him to turn down. He wants to be remember as the greatest manager of all time and joining us would have given him the platform to do that when you combine it with with everything the man has done so far.
I personally don't believe Jose knew, more like mind games as usual from him. You only have to watch his interview after the Real game to see how much he wanted the United job. A brilliant manager and the man I originally wanted at the club but I can totally understand why we overlooked him. Whether Moyes is the right man is yet to be seen but I will give him my full backing.
I think we'll see this.
Moyes - Successful = Happy days
Moyes - Unsuccessful = Guardiola (if he is sucessful at Bayern)
Think we would have gone for Pep is he didn't go Bayern.

Please go 'support' someone else. You obviously have no idea what it means to support a team and especially one like United.

Which is the right way to be manutd,
I think a lot of that with Mourinho was the sheer amount of respect for Ferguson, but also keeping his options open. There were rumours his agents were talking to a few clubs. I don't know when he had the offer from Chelsea though.
I know what you mean about his ego, I just think even with that, I can see why Chelsea may have been his preferred option.
People keep talking about Jose's ego and his baggage. Do people forget about Ferguson? Numerous touchline bans, media spins, refusing to speak to the media. Swearing on TV, and bombardment of refs during games. Ferguson was no saint and the best managers are not saints! They show passion and Jose is just the same in this way. Ferguson was no sweet little mellow guy. People need to stop being short sighted. Jose would have been the right manager to stamp his authority at Utd. Moyes will forever be in Ferguson's shadow looking up to his legacy. Trying to "copy" Ferguson is not the correct way.
Yes, I remember fondly that time when Sir Alex went behind an assistant manager on the touchline and purposely poked him in the eyes.
And also that time when he snuck into a laundry basket when he was banned from going into the dressing room.
Yeah, Sir Alex is just like Jose.
The club and Sir Alex himself have given their full backing to Moyes. The people on this thread pining for Jose just sound like a punch of plastics who want a shinier toy to play with.
