And now cut one just short of point.
Doesn't matter however, he's still there.
Lyon still causing problems, Watson bowling well too, Root just sticking to leaving the ball
Can't see England surviving to the close without losing at least Cook - woefully out of nick, and has been for ages.
Didn't Cook average 50 against New Zealand at Home?
Great in India, poor in New Zealand Away, good in New Zealand at home, poor so far this series
root as a problem with the full ball
I'd average 50 against New Zealand
In other news, Root has gone.
Don't think so, he just got frustrated by some very good bowling there by the Aussies, not allowing him to score - you could see a couple of the balls before he was trying to hit through the wider shorter ones, and then Siddle brought the line in a little more and tucked him up which led to the watch.
Nightwatchman in, half hour to go
poor shot from Root Aussies get there first wicket England dont look a confident side batting
now we need bres to get a good innings here
Wasn't a poor shot at all - it was a poor decision to go back.
Credit where credit is due, the Australians have bowled and fielded very well, and they deserve the wicket
Root is not an opener.
"Oh, but he scored a crapload at Lord's"
Should have been out early on more than once. He will get many low scores as an opener before England swallow their pride and see sense.
Don't see how you can say that, on the basis that he has got out early here.
Has batted as an opener for his entire career at Yorkshire, and done exceptionally well - if anything, he did well out of posistion before
Root lucky he got that big innings at lords. Should have been out for 8 and then it would have been 5 fails in a row.
Totally different when batting with pressure. In the second innings he had no pressure at all as the Aussies where bowled out for 150ish.

Rain predicted all day Sunday/Monday.
Three Day test?
Don't worry Punting, I think they originally had rain forecast for the final 4 days of the test.
Good news, always like to see a result
Cook's innings now takes on a big level of importance
gutred if that is the case England should win it on there own merrit forget the weather. England need a good partnership dont wont to lose another wicket tonight
Bresnan out And he's missed it
bresnan aint to bright.. is he?
Peter SIddle.
Hang on? Why has he walked if he didn't hit it? He must have?
England ain't going to win his one - it's all about hanging on and hoping for rain - simples. Just not sure about Root as an opener..good at Lords when the pressure was off but his other knocks have been poor.. I think he will move to 3 or 4 when those slots become vacant. As a predominantly Backfooted player, he will always be susceptible to movement early on - he is good enough to play for England but maybe not as an opener.
It has hit is trouser on his back leg
Hmm, do batsman actually know when they've hit it? Bresnan and Warner say no.
Eramus is a poor umpire.. makes far to many mistakes.
