I completely agree with your summation of the Rooney situation.

If we can't get Fabregas and Rooney puts in a transfer request and tries to force a move, what other player out there would make the loss of Rooney easier to take?

If we put in a third bid for him though i'll definitely think something is possible.

There is no football incentive for Cesc to leave Barca

He is their future and playing with better players, living in Barcelona.

Who'd leave that behind for wet Manchester having already left London?

The media have tried to make more of it than it was as usual

*interested in leaving Barca.

C'mon mate. Not so much optimism but surely if after all the denials we put in a third bid that something is odd and not quite going with the 'script'?

well there is because if he is the future at barca that means that he wont get too many starts just now.

He would be the present at ManUnited. That is a footballing incentive to any player.

And it is always raining when I go to Barca. And if a player factored the weather as a major reason about their job.. then they should be avoided.

Apparently Cesc played around 40 times for Barca last season, can't imagine him getting too many more than that playing for us.

Probably, but there is quite simply no reason he would need to come to us. Barca have a far greater chance of winning the CL, they dominate their domestic league for the most part and they are just better than us. Combine that with the fact that they're his boyhood club, we're not going to pay him more and the fact he's working with the best players in the world and there is no logical reason he'd leave Barca for us, unless he was forced to.

How much would be too much? If they reject 50m, do we go to 60m? At what point do you just say "he's not coming" and move on.

They should have more than 1 or 2 targets surely?

Especially considering Spaniards would rarely leave Barca or Madrid. A lower level club possibly but not the big 2

There are two reasons why Cesc was probably interested in moving to United. One is the chance to be the main man in the midfield of a major European team and the second is money. I believe he is on around £80k to £90k per week at Barca as he took a pay cut from his £100k per week wages at Arsenal. Apparently United were willing to pay him in excess of £200k per week. That would interest anybody. I wonder if his statement last week coincided with assurances from Barca about playing time and the promise of a significant wage rise.

We'd have probably offered similar to what RvP is rumoured to be on - matching the highest earner. Barca would have been stupid not to offer an improved contract to Fab.

Cesc is at the club he wants to play for and getting game time

He's said he's not interested but the media have tried to drag the story on and make something of it when there is no substance there

United would have more chance of Bale than Cesc!
