Good article
I really like the look of him. Still settling in of course but he looks confident and doesn't hide.
Great clearance off the line.
Numbers
I really think it might be worth starting him alongside Verts, when Rose comes back.
Morning Numbers........................................I have been extolling the virtues of Chiriches for several months now.
He has the potential to be as good as Vidic, only with more ball skills. He has already captained Romania & as you say is a major star in his home country.
Yes he will give us some frightening moments, but overall he is going to become a top player with us. That clearance last night was pure class and prevented a certain goal for Sheriff.

maybe we shld calm down just a tad...very promising start...but had him moments vs villa.

He was very impressive last night. Our best player by far in the first half. I love his confidence and composure on the ball.
If Chiriches and vertonghen are our future centre back partnership which i hope they will, they will have to improve tactically because our defence was shocking last night.

Chicken you have a very good point regarding the fact the defence was poor and that they got behind us too much but you can't criticise the flash stuff until he gets caught and costs us. For all you know he could do it week in week out and never get caught!
Naughton had a shocker yesterday but I think our main problem was the closing down in midfield, the through balls should have been prevented before they occur.
Chicken - bit harsh? I think AVB picked a defence suitable to overcome poor opponents. I don't rate Naughton at all and not sure what to make of Fryers.
Sheriff played well. I will agree with you on the high line situation. I know people like the idea of this sweeper keeper but sooner or later Lloris will get a red card having wiped someone out.
You can see it a mile off.

True.... But i think that is the whole point, i think he needs the discipline not to do it, to make sure he doesn't get caught.
I compared him to BAE, and i mean that because i could even tell when he was going to drop his shoulder and try to turn his marker, and with Chiriches i can also see he is not going to play it simple, and try to turn. Obviously not to the extent of chipping the ball behind himself and totally dummying the attacker, but i really think he should tone it down quite a bit.
But i accept your point that he hasnt been caught yet...and may never.
If he does it when we're 3-0 up, with 5 minutes to go, that is fine, but i would go mad if he fluffed up and it cost us points....

Chicken - bit harsh?
========================
I think i've been harsh on the basis we kept a clean sheet but i think the points i made are fair.
How did Chiriches be in the position to be the hero on that clearance? He let the player in on a one-on-one to start with. Now we have to praise the recovery, but we also have to look at the bigger picture. If the striker takes it first time, its probably a goal.
I know what you mean though, I don't think I could handle the stress of him doing it against a better team. It was bad enough with BAE and he is a lb.

I still maintain that a fit Kaboul is still by far our best defender... if he's ever fit again
To be honest I am far more concerned with our attack than defence at the minute. We are not creating nearly enough chances and the tempo has been very very slow all season.
The ball is not getting to the strikers quickly enough and for all the talent we have in midfield this is a worry.
I agree good youngster and has huge potential but I am not certain he is top drawer or has the potential to be. He may well be Romanias captain but they coped perfectly fine without him during the last international break.
his positioning is not the greatest, he has to be talked through the game and aerially he is quite poor. watch when we are tested with long balls over the top.
the positives are that he is young, new country, new culture and he will learn given time to adapt over here. Obviously I hope he has a long successful career at tottenham hotspur and proves me wrong

^ this too.
We're turning into a tippy-tappy team in the middle of the pitch.
Although we won 2-0, i can only think of one chance created in the box, and that was Eriksen's chip to Defoe where he should have done a "David Platt" style volley and hooked it into the net. A difficult skill, but Defoe is capable.
Other than that - zilch. And this was a worry last season and its a worry this season.
Some posters were claiming someone will get a thumping from us soon, but this will never happen with the way we are playing at the moment. We're basing our tactics too much on possession in the wrong areas (the first third).
Sorry for another moan - but its only because i care .
^ Oh and Lennon's one-on-one.
Chicken, your having a right moan today. Although I agree with most of your points.
sandy,
For once i do feel guilty for moaning, as we came away with a 2-0 win and clean sheet - but the result doesnt tell us the whole story.
I suppose one saving grace is that we played poorly and still won - but i found the game yesterday very frustrating.
Although i predicted a 2-0 win in Loyal's prediction game, i quietly thought we might rack up a few goals against Sheriff, but i realised quite quickly this was not going to happen.
Oh well....onwards to Sunday i suppose...
Yes we are building up too slowly, against Villa when we upped the pace we tore them to pieces!!
This is my only downside in terms of tactics from AVB, a little more adventure & aggression required please!
Makemyday
Vlads overhead kick was a thing of beauty, silky skills we will see more of as he is still settling in and can only improve.
Chicken, some valid points but why be disparaging about Benny and then about his stand in?
Without his goal line clearance then we really would have had something to moan about.
All in all so far so good
Also did we score from a set piece or did i imagine it?
