Chicken

Youre a bit argumentative today arent you ?

I believe they will be our future centre back partnership but tactically they were poor.

However that was because they played together for the first time last night and it is quite conceivable their partnership will develop in time.

I have to say the build up play is painfuly slow t times, gone are the days of Bale and Lennon flying down both sides of the pitch, I am afraid to say, but it is a rebuilding process with all the new players now, so whilst the results still are coming I am a reasonably happy bunny. There is still a lot to admire about the team, despite perhaps not being quite so interesting to watch. The clean sheets, however lucky some of them have been, are pleasing me greatly. All the teams has to do now though is quicken up in the opposition half of the pitch, and start creating more clear cut chances.

==================

I wouldnt say argumentative but i admit i have made some negative comments following what is essentially a 2-0 win, and a clean sheet.

But....as i say, i do think the issues are valid for discussion and our defence looks totally amateur with the high line tactics.

I also think its a valid point to ask why you would like to see a CB partnership you saw issues with, as our future pairing. I suppose it would be like me saying Lamela looked clueless last night but hope he's our future right winger.

I just found the comment a tad contradicting - thats all.

I posted an article on here weeks ago whereby a Romanian guy who works with my brother said that we have signed a World Class Player who is everything that David Luiz would like to be !!!

Numbers

I do see alot of Luiz in Chiriches, mainly the part that they are good on the ball, but not so great defensively.

I must say I like vlads versatility. It is huge in todays game of limited number squads.

I'd like to see Chiriches in 6 games time and then make a proper judgement. Right now I'm not convinced. He reminds me of David Luiz...lots of skill but not the application to do the basic's of defending right. I'd rather have a defender who can challenge aerially, read the game, and get stuck into a tackle and have pace.

How did Chiriches be in the position to be the hero on that clearance? He let the player in on a one-on-one to start with. Now we have to praise the recovery, but we also have to look at the bigger picture. If the striker takes it first time, its probably a goal.

Chicken, I do really think you are being too picky, the defence were left exposed a few times by the midfield. And the point re Chiriches is not that he got beaten, but that he got into gear and recovered the situation. How many of our defenders in the past would have done that?

Greaves,

I genuinely do credit him for making the clearance but i thought the whole defensive unit was a shambles, which included Chiriches, for the entire 90 minutes.

I do feel harsh saying it because they kept a clean sheet but it wasn't pleasant viewing thats for sure.

In the short time i have seen Chiriches, he just looks very shaky. There is no doubt he is good on the ball, but defensively he looks vulnerable to me.

I think he may be too "continental" for a Premiership backline, but happy to see how he progresses in EL fixtures.

Chiriches has a lot of potential but he also has a lot to learn about the defensive side of the game. Yes, his block was a thing of beauty last night, but better awareness and positional sense would have meant he'd never have had to make it.

As for that little bit of skill, great to watch but if it hadn't come off you can guarantee he'd be getting pelters today.

He's very assured on the ball and obviously has a lot of skill, if he learns the defensive tools of the trade he will be a major asset for us.

Chicken, I agree it did not look good but when teams like Chelsea, Arsenal & United have had poorish games and won, then it is lauded as the sign of a good team.

As for Chiriches, as centre backs go he is still young, at 23 he has a lot to learn. Most top CB's don't really shine until around 25+ & some even later.
