articles like this make me laugh. lets go back to being nice and open, giving away three goal leads and getting smashed away from home

winning is the number 1 priority, once we do enough of that we can work on style of play.

"where do you see the problems in the team?"

The speed and direction of passing from the box or CM when opponent attacks break down (allowing the opponent to regroup well in advance) .

And the attack failing to provide Soldado with anything resembling a decent service, even when he has taken good positions.

I see our problems being the 'inverted wingers' at this moment in time. Defensively I think it's great as they tuck inside and make us narrow. I was skeptical of it attacking wise after we lost to West Ham and recent games are just reinforcing it, particularly with Lennon on the left.

He wants to go outside the full back and put the ball across the face of goal. Simple. But he doesn't want to use his left foot so he has to turn back onto his right. Everything slows down, we pass the ball around and lose it.

Classic example being Paulinho's pass into Lennon in the first half. If Lennon was left footed he strides onto the ball and shoots, no question about it. Instead he tried to pass back to Paulinho who was in by far a worse position and we lose the ball and don't get a shot away.

Additionally counter attacks, whereas before Lennon or Bale pick the ball up on their favoured side and frankly leg it upfield and get the ball in the box, they want to cut inside onto their favoured foot. Allowed the Everton players to show them inside to where they have bodies and deal with it easily.

Rather than making us unpredictable with the wingers able to go inside or outside, its made us extremely predictable as we just go inside all the time. AVB has to adapt the system to suit the players. Not shoe-horn the players into a system.

Fair play AVB+ he could do that by letting the wingers swap during the game, making the full backs have to defend both ways.

IMO before a manager can call himself successful at spurs he needs to build a team that wins and does so with some class.

----

so if we won the league the europa the fa cup and the league cup playing as we are now, you wouldnt class avb a success due to the lack of "class"?

hi oddiY

i read it

i just am not on this whole bill nicholson said this so this what we have to do.

we have won the league twice in our history ffs. and i guarantee that that bill nicholson side didnt play incredible football every single game.

oddiY - I don't know why we don't swap the wingers more often either. Give them something to think about, drag the wide, then play through the centre, mix it up a bit.

Defensively I have no problems with the set up at the moment. If we don't concede goals, the worst we can do is draw. Just have to look at Roma in Serie A. After ten games they've only conceded one goal. All it takes is one goal in your favour and you have the three points.

Chronic

everyone knows if you add a Bill Nicholson quote to an article you immediately have the moral high ground and cannot be challenged

as to the real meat of the article, i would rather moan about our style than our results - im convinced with this group of players we will eventually play the football we want to see whilst maintaining our discipline at the back, like you said in your article the other day, 2.5pts for clean sheet, 1.5pts for a goal - i know what i would rather have

AVB+ spot on mate

Although it can be boring to watch, i think its abput the long haul mate, and as Sandys article below this says - its pounts that count, its not figure skating or gymnastics, there are no points for style

Basically as a life long Spurs fan I at this moment in time am not really looking forward to watching us play. Utter bore fests week in week out. Please tell me when this changes. Thank you.
