Didnt really see this one coming. He hasn't nailed down a place with us and yet too fairly established prem teams are chasing him.
Still for 2.5million I would say no. He's young, homegrown, going to get better, back up for left back, left wing and striker.
"back up for left back, left wing and striker."
That's the point. We could potentially lose three positions if we sold Schlupp, with less than 12 hours to find at least one replacement.
If they come back with the same offer in the summer, then let's talk!
Hmm. That rather depends whether you view developing your own talent instead of buying it in as a "luxury". Some regard it as an investment – and rip into their clubs for not doing it.
He isn't back up for a striker because we have three back ups already in wood, Phillips and GTF. That leaves two positions. He isn't back up for left wing anymore because Mihraz is.
For me he is back up for left back, although not convincing back up. I would be happy with £2.5m with an unproven player but we would need a loan signing for LB

Agreed but in business terms £2.5m for someone who is still unknown is a good deal considering we were offered the same for the much more solid Liam Moore.
It is unconfirmed, but I've heard the £2.5m bid by Swansea has been rejected.
Snap their hands off and put him in a taxi.
Completely unproven and yet to really deliver for us. Yes he has potential but has only shown this in a very few rare glimpses for me.
In fact if it wasn't for teams like Man Utd showing an interest previously and the media hype I would seriously question whether he has a future at Championship level let alone Premiership. I reckon he must have a hell of an agent or PR machine behind him.
Take the money and run.
Does he have the potential to develop into a Premiership class player? If not, then £2.5m is more than we would ever get for him again.
So far, I think he looks like a Championship class left back (admittedly a young one who would be learning) and a League 1 class striker. However, he does have a lot of attributes that could make him a success - pace, power, a decent enough touch - he just looks lost in his reading of the game and doesn't have the confidence in is own ability to be really effective. His close-in finishing has also gone downhill.
While I'd still love to see Jeff come through and be a Premier League player in our team, we'll probably reflect in the future that this was a great opportunity missed to get some money in. Still, I don't much like the idea of selling to surprise bids on transfer deadline day because you haven't had time to think things through; as such, I wouldn't blame the club for rejecting any approach for any player today though, as we really don't want to upset the apple cart right now.
I don't see him as a left back myself, he has no defensive qualities, he is attack minded. I see him as a left winger or striker but there is a lot of development needed for him to play upfront.
I think we should have taken the money but he may yet surprise us.
I remember having similar discussions about Joe Mattock, people saying it was a shame to see him ago, I never saw the big deal with him either
I don't think we should weaken the squad at this point - why take the risk? £2.5M on offer against £100M+ if promotoion is gained. To me it's a no-brainer.
Hi nuneation, I can't think of many notable contributions Schlupp has made to our promotion charge. Infact, if he was injured for the rest of the season, I don't think it would make the slightest difference. Miquel would come in for Konchesky if he got injured and that would be that
There's a few things here to consider:
How close to FFP are we? Would £2.5m for someone who doesn't make our bench some weeks be too good to turn down?
What are Swansea trying to buy? A striker or a Left Back? What does Schlupp what to be?
My opinion is that he would be okay in The Championship as a striker but not a top 6 striker. If Jeff insists he wants to be a striker and Swansea want to pay that for a striker we have to take it (well, see if they'll go to £3m ) Not sure what he's done to deserve a premier league move but let's bank the cash and not worry about it!
However,
If he's happy to develop as a left back we should keep him. He's got the potential to be a top quality left back and is very much a premier league type player with his pace and athleticism. If we can develop his defending he'd be the man for that position next year if we go up. Koncheski won't cut it in the prem anymore so if we go up it's a position we'd need to fill-Jeff's if he wants it.
Blackstarr. I hear what you say but I'm still of the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' philosophy with this. We don't have a large squad.
Is Miquel a good left back and isn't he injured anyway?
I think the telling thing about Schlupp is that he has been played as left back because there hasn't been anyone else. That doesn't tell me he is a developing left back.
If you watch him, he looks very awkward in that position. The only time he looks remotely comfortable as left back is when he is bombing forward - thats why teams want him, his raw pace and power.
Miquel is ok as a left back, certainly more comfortable than schlepp because he thinks primarily as a defender. Schlupp thinks primarily as an attacker.
It would be a mistake in my view to turn down £2.5m to develop someone to be a LB when they are not naturally inclined to play in that position.
Reports that the bid is closer to £1m. In that case, no deal.
If it’s a million I wouldn’t be too fussed, but £2.5m seems very fair to me.
Jeffrey has potential, but judgement calls are made on players with potential every day. Some decisions come back and bite you in the backside, but many others prove to be exactly the right call.
A £2.5m fee seems an amount that would be very useful for squad development when the player isn’t an essential member of that squad. If the decision is proven wrong in the future then it doesn’t really detract from the fact that it was the right decision at the time.
If we could add a reserve LB to our squad, however, it would make the deal much more palatable, because that’s the only area where Schlupp is adding value in the short term.
£2.5m = Tempting
£1m = forget it
Keep... dont see the point in loosing squad members at this stage he might not be getting game time or making the bench every week but he does make for good competition in training. He could go on loan next season in the championship if we were promoted to a club that will play him where he wants probably every game then we will see whether he is worth it. 100+ million to a promoted club i think we can afford to chance him considering this is only a rumour and for what its worth i doubt whether it was million.
If we accept 2.5m now we still have time to make a late purchase ourselves........defender?
"What are Swansea trying to buy? A striker or a Left Back?"
Not that it makes much difference to us what they want him for, but I would guess that, as they have sprung this move immediately after being told to stuff their bid for Tom Ince, that they are looking for a wing-midfielder.
