First Person Shooter Dead?

Chelsea I would say mods are your friends. I agree in the last 10 years the market has become way to saturated, especially with what I would class as the 'quake' style shooter. But there are still loads of people playing both dod and some version of cs, as well as bf on hardcore mode. Might be worth looking at something different like dayz

DayZ is still in beta isn't it? I'll wait for the proper release. Tbh I just think it's reached its full potential as a shooter. The first person type. Using first person for other types of games is more interesting to me. RPGs, survival horror, adventure....

Plus RTS, simulators, puzzle...hell almost all other genres are more interesting to me at this point. FPS needs a big shake up to recapture my interest.

Sorry CFC cant really help you as i feel exactly the same. The only FPS i can say i have truly enjoyed recently is Borderlands and Borderlands 2. But having played FPSs for the best part of 20 years i can say i am burnt out on them. Its quite scary to have watched them grow and to stagnate so spectacularly. However, and will go as far as Evolve has piqued my interest in the world of FPSs and this other than Day Z and Rust is the first to do so in a while, well the first AAA fps that has in a while.

Loved both borderlands games....think I enjoyed the first a little more and only with friends playing. Then it was interesting.

It seems FPS has taken the slight tweak in gameplay and super boosted graphics route to try and hide the fact that they keep releasing the same games year after year. Melee used to be this button, now it's here. We added sprint. Respawning is even faster now!

Also, I think the fact that FPS games have become about reaction time and accuracy. It's a narrow set of skills that can only improve so much. It's much more satisfying using your head in gaming.

Again CFC i agree with you fully. It may be TDM but you see very little of team work and tactics. That why to this day 15 years later i am still playing Counter Strike. I enjoy co op games and BF becomes such a good experience with friends. Problem is though while EA and Activision continue to rake in the money with just graphical updates they will.

They should be more like Borderlands. Basically a FPS RPG. Destiny looks like it could be good but unfortunately the publisher is Activision, so I imagine if it's a big initial success it will then be churned out every year with limited improvements.

They dont need to be like anyone else. They just need to take risks and evolve. I dont see anything new coming.

Titanfall is fun as hell, been playing the shít out of the beta. Full release has fourteen maps, finally a respectable amount for a game's release, most nowadays have about 8 or 9.

Most people just think it's COD with Mechs, but once you play it you'll just fall in love, it's insanely fun.

Sorry, I'm more of a single player campaign guy. Ain't no way I'm playing that much for a purely multiplayer game.

I must admit TitanFall for me has changed my mind so many times

1st see it - CoD with mechs
See a preview - Ok could be something unique and different
Watch some more videos and game play from shows - I am back to thinking CoD with mechs
Get the Beta - think its pretty cool and a little different
Play a few more hours of beta - realise its just CoD with mechs

I can tell you now - i will not be buying Titanfall. I am enjoying the beta, BUT, it is not my type of game. I think i am like Chelsea in i prefer slightly slower more tactical shooters which this doesnt quite do it for me. Like i said my pick of next gen shooters is Evolve

Hmm, Evolve looks interesting. I hope that's not the only monster. I've only seen one video tbf. Looks impressive and possibly fun. Like I said though, I tend to prefer games that have a single player/co-op campaign as well. I prefer PC game pricing too. Generally they price depending on the content. Smaller games will cost less or even games made by smaller companies. I do not care for the one price for all games that consoles have adapted. Even their expansions are too expensive. They need to develop a "Steam" for consoles.

No there are more monsters, this was for showing to journalists

Hmmm, that's exciting BUT I'm not even sure I'd really ever want to play as the monster. I enjoy co-op a lot so would probably opt out. Of course I'd try it just to see.

SoG - Have you tried Far Cry 3. I was a little late at taking this one on but really enjoyed its single player mode.

Also agree with some of the earlier comments that Borderlands is well worth a go.

I enjoyed Far Cry 3 a lot. I think it had more to do with actually playing as a character where you cared about what happened more than the actual play. The game play felt like COD. But it goes to show how much smart writing can influence a player.

I've always been crap at FPS

The only one i can remotely remember sticking to was The World Is Not Enough (James Bond) on PS1.

Far cry 3 was brilliant. Completely unbelievable but at the same time totally unique and gets you interested. Looked gorgeous too.

Vaas was an amazing character too.

Romans Bank manager- Vaas was the standout guy from this game, him and the wildlife that seemed to atrtack you at inconvinient times. Still hate those birds after they ruined one of my assaults on an enemy camp.
