#Mbappe2020 gets closer.

It’s no wonder we kept our powder dry this summer.

Some French journalist reckons Mbappe would consider a move to Liverpool "every single day of the week" but we`d need to pay in the region of £300m

I doubt it would be that much, nearer £200m and that's still out of our range but we can only dream
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been enjoying Fabinho's shameless Barcelona style tapping up of Mbappe in the media every other day. Top effort by him, unfortunately the financials on that deal are never going to work for us, not even close.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the finances could work. The commercial spin off from having Mbappe would be absolutely huge, we’re talking LeBron and Bolt levels here. Not to mention the increase in sponsorship deals.

I don’t think this will happen at all, but that transfer figure and his wages would shrink to very manageable levels.

Okay let’s look at the finances.

Could we have spent 100m in the summer? Yes.
Nike’s 5 year deal is reportedly worth £40m a year with LFC getting 20% on all products sold.
And the deal is for 5 years.. so that’s £200m in sponsorship from Nike.
We sell 1.2m shirts a year (just shirts) so with the 20% LFC get that’s (1.2m x £50) x 0.2 = £12m
Over the 5 years with things remaining constant = £260m, we could ask Nike to front us all that.. = £360m in the kitty.

Now, things won’t remain constant.

We are on course to win the league this season, and we will sell more shirts in more territories. New Balance were absolutely crap at getting kits out, and Nike has a far greater presence in more markets.

Conservatively we could sell about 20% more shirts.
That’s 1.44m = +£2.4m, over 5 years that’s +£12m

All other apparel will honestly outstrip shirt sales. But let’s for arguments sake say it will be the same and at a lower cost per each.
(1.44m x £40) x 0.2 = £11.5m a year

So in an absolutely conservative scenario = £74m
£14m a year more than we were getting with New Balance.

Total of £370m over the five years.

If we managed to get Mbappe, those shirt sales will go through the roof. Exposure to LFC from other sports superstars will push it even higher. Effectively the merchandising % would easily pay for Mbapoe’s wages, and if he improves even slightly per year we will have an appreciating asset which bucks the trend of footballers who are largely huge liabilities on the balance sheet.

With Nike, we could afford Mbappe.

Shrewsbury’s old stadium was called Gay Meadow. Always good for a childish quip 😁

Sounds reasonable. I could see us breaking our wage structure for an absolute superstar and offering £250k a week but it’s still that initial massive £200m (probably more to be honest) that I just don’t see us paying. Clubs like PSG, Madrid and City are able to do it but I’m not sure we can.

Transfer fees are amortised over the player's contract term for FFP purposes so say he was to sign a 5 year deal it would come to £40m per year. It would just be a case of how to structure the payments to PSG. It's apparently rare to pay the full fee upfront in one installment so it would become a case of negotiating a suitable cash flow acceptable to both parties...

I'd say it's possible but unlikely.

Saw it live, absolutely disgraceful. Literally shows the players names on their shirt during the footage

What kind of imbeciles do they employ at the BBC?

Genuinely makes me sick I'm paying £150 a year to watch their shiite coverage.

I didn’t actually see the original report, just the apology at the end of the news. I assume they showed LeBron’s picture whilst announcing Kobi’s death.

Wonder if it’ll make it onto the bloopers show

Yeah I was just wondering if they showed Lebron while talking about how he’d just passed Kobe’s points total, or how his last tweet was congratulating him for doing so.

£50 as a ticket price in a shop? the shop will almost certainly have 50% of that amount.

i also imagine it will 20% of shirt profits, rather than the item, i wouldnt be surprised to see the actual income from the shirts closer to 1/3 to 1/4 of the estimates..
