I thought Minamino was the highlight last night, absolute drive and determination, his energy in the press and link up play showing he's capable of that firmino role.

Jones and Grujic were also great in midfield and should push for roles in there aswell.

If Fabinho is to fill in at CB fairly often I can see a place for Grujic in the team.

Origi is a consistent scorer despite not being a consistent starter, I do think he gets a lot of stick given this is his first start in what, a month?

posted on 25/9/20

I wonder if we might opt to keep Grujic given it looks like we'll definitely lose Gini next summer and Milner will be 35 by then.

He's always looked decent to me but is unfortunate to play in the position he does with so many ahead of him.

He’s always played to the same level. He doesn’t get stick as such, fans just see that he’ll never be good enough.

Minamino looks a lot sharper this season, looks to be finding his feet at this level and seems to be adapting now which is good to see. It's also good to see the likes of Shaqiri and Origi looking fit and sharp as well given their lack of game time so far.

I think it's worth holding onto Grujic. I think with the potential departure of Wijnaldum, Milner hitting his mid-late 30's now and Oxlade-Chamberlain unreliable because of injuries, keeping hold of Grujic and keeping Jones involved would be sensible.

I like the look of Jones, very good technically on the ball, breaks the lines of midfield well and is not scared to get into the box and get a goal. He may be that goal scoring midfielder that the squad currently lacks from midfield who may chip in with 5+ every season with the way he is going.

i like the look of grujic, perhaps 1 more loan, maybe a prem club will have him for a season?

Never good enough for what though? I make him maybe our 4th choice CF now. He is certainly good enough for that. He was good enough to be third choice too. People used to get on at Lovren too, but the guy was 4th choice CB. I doubt there are many better 4th choices in world football in that position.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends what he wants to achieve on a personal level. If he’s happy being a bit part players who picks up trophies then fine, but he may regret not being at a team where he’ll be a starter and really testing himself to see how much he could have achieved with regards his own stats.

By the way, Lovren wasn’t bought with the intention of being a fourth choice, he was bought as a starter. He ended up just being to inconsistent for that.

For what Origi offers and what his place is in the team, he's a good player. Think if Origi was to be sold, who would be signed that would be better than Origi and would be happy as just being a squad player. We saw this issue with Werner who wouldn't join unless he was guaranteed games. I'd definitely say keep him although it's not a huge loss to the team if he was to be sold because he could be replaced, I just don't think there would be anybody better than him for his role in the squad.

How many 4th choices are paid as much as origi?

Id honestly take 15mil for him. And still think we had done well. I'd also say we are more likely to shift sadio central than start origi, with ox, shaq and increasingly Elliot favored over playing div central

Yes he's scored a few good goals coming on late in important games, maybe he can trade his whole career on that?

Not sure how much you can rely on Oxlade-Chamberlain due to his injuries and Shaqiri doesn't seem to be favoured that much either, even when there may be an opportunity for him. Jota coming in also doesn't help Shaqiri's case to getting in the side either. He's almost been relegated to playing with kids because the front 3 now seems to be the regular ones and then Origi, Minamino and Jota as the back up.

Shaqiri might be one that ends up making way before any of them. Elliot still needs time to develop, he's physically not ready for the challenges of first team football yet.

Strange argument IMO. You could say the same about half the professional players in the world.

Origi is playing for one of, of not the best ten in the world at the moment. Playing a huge role in the success of that club and scoring goals in CL finals, derbies against big clibc like Barca.

95% of football players would kill for that. If he were to leave there's arguably better players than him willing to take up a similar role at Liverpool. Of course he's happy enough.

You cant say he is not challenging himself. He's 3rd or 4th choice for the best team in the world and his medals are really shiny. Far far better (and more challenging) than starting every game for Watford or Birmingham City.

I think the argument was could he potentially leave, take a step backwards for more regular game time and then move on to somewhere better where he could get regular game time and win trophies. Think of the likes of De Bryune and Salah, merely squad players at Chelsea, took a step backwards and are now fixtures in each of their respective, successful sides.

I could understand if he would want to move for that potential option, but if he is happy to stay and fight for his place in what is a harmonious squad, then keep him. Doubtful that Liverpool would find much better for what he offers to the squad.

It doesn’t bother me what he does, I’m just looking from the point of view of him looking back on his career. He’s got the medals, so maybe he could actually challenge himself personally. He’s never going to be a regular starter for us, so he’s never going to achieve much as an individual with regards career stats. Not sure why you think that’s so strange?

Why are you using championship clubs as an example, I’ve not suggested anywhere that’s the level he is. He’s a top half PL player imo, he’ll get plenty of goals with regular games. So maybe don’t make things up just so you can be your condescending self 👍

Isn't him going to play for a worse team where he's a guaranteed starter, rather than competing and playing with the best players in the world, taking the easy route?

He's scored vital goals for us don't forget.
