I’m sure we’re insured.
However, Edwards cancelled the contract our end, before he could be registered as passed, to ensure his family kept the wage from his remaining contract.
They’re two seperate issues.

Anyone know what happens with Jota in respect to FFP? What does this mean for the books?
What a tragedy. RIP Jota lad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In big handfuls we bought him for £45m in summer 2020, probably on a 5 year contract - hard to tell as we don't publish details of contracts but that's a fair assumption to make. That would mean £9m of transfer fee amortisation each year, plus wages.
He then signed an extension in summer 2022 which resets the amortisation timeline for the remaining transfer fee balance of £27m. Again the contract length isn't public but assuming it was five years that would mean £5.4m of transfer fee amortisation each year until summer 2027.
So there would be £10.8m of unamortized transfer fee that the club has to write off as a result of his death. Not sure if PSR makes allowances for exceptional circumstances such as a player's death though. Also, any insurance payout would be treated as offsetting income against the transfer fee write off, but we'll never know the details there.

I don’t think we were selling Jota anyway with Nunez clearly out the door so it just makes it a little trickier to sign a Nunez replacement.
posted 2 weeks, 1 day ago
So we keep Nunez ?
Newcastle have just signed Elanga, does that open the door for a cheeky bid for one of their players ? Isak or Gordon ?
posted 2 weeks, 1 day ago
I know the PFA has a pension scheme for all footballers. I don't know what insurance (risk) products are linked to that scheme, if any.
The club itself can't take out any insurance on a player to safeguard the club.
If the club does have insurance benefits, it's still taken out for the player so that the player can safeguard their legal dependants in the unfortunate event something happens

That means what? 90m+ for Gordon? We have Gakpo and Diaz and keeping those is way way better than signing Gordon.

It's going to be interesting with what we do when we decide it is appropriate to look at forwards. I always had the feeling that if we did not buy Isak that we would park it for a year and allow Jota and Diaz to play 9 but now sadly Nunez has to be replaced by a 9 and very unlikely that it will be Isak.
Options at moment:
Certain:
Salah
Gakpo
Exit rumours:
Diaz
Chiesa
Must go:
Nunez
