You have to furrrrking jail me.
Saw someone else post this about NET spend and it’s perfect. Puts it far better than I ever have.
“This is a football forum where the youngest posters are probably in their mid-to-late 30s.
"Net-spend" and "gross spend" are nonsense terms, at the end of the day. Nothing more than schoolyard Top Trumps. Especially when you fail to include player wages.
As far as clubs are concerned, it's all about the annual amortised cost of player fees and wages.”
You’re welcome.

"As far as clubs are concerned"
No doubt net spend is nonsense to the clubs as they have to amortise and make additional payments, but to a regular football fan who has no access to that info then net spend is a useful barometer for gauging what clubs are spending.

Yes it’s a useful barometer to make something up when you freely admit you don’t have the information. Another good post.

Here's how much clubs spent on agent fees in a financial period.
You can also pluck their transfer window spend out of another website's ass hole, and you could actually calculate a rough estimate of the what a club spent on transfer and agent fees. It's not rocket sconce.

I don’t really see the problem with using net spend when used in an informal discussion about what clubs are spending. I doubt there are many people who use it as a definitive guide on what clubs are spending overall on players, at least beyond trying to point score on social media. If we had to use the actual overall figure when discussing transfers, then there would be no discussions because none of have access to them.
posted 1 week, 2 days ago
ofcourse its useful in a way but sure it doesnt tell the whole picture, if one clubs spends 500mil and sells nobody thats obviously not the same as another spending 500 but selling 250mil worth
posted 1 week, 2 days ago
£500m over 5 years is £100m per annum...which gives us 5 years of wumming material so obviously it's the more correct way to speak about transfers
