We press high, our full backs push forward and 1 of our 2 CMs has the freedom to drift, it is inevitable we will not be rock solid defensively.

Exactly.
I will happily sacrifice being slightly less solid in defense if it means such a huge improvement in attack.
Offensively we're light years ahead of what we were last season and if that means being not quite as good defensively then I'll happily take that.
Either way I think too much is being made of the goals conceded thing. We conceded goals last season as well even when we were at our very best defensively. Atletico took our supposedly really good defence apart in the CL semis.
Last season we won nothing because we weren't good enough in attack and didn't score enough goals. It appears that we've fixed that issue so if it's not broke don't try to fix it.

you have to pick your games to be more defensive and away at City is one of those games. Fergie always did this too, he rarely went gung ho agst his title rivals, he knew how to win a title.
