I cant see any scenario other than him retiring or moving on, in either case it will be his decision alone, and the board would no doubt beg him to reconsider, probably with a new £10million contract as an incentive.
I think we just have to accept that Mr Stubborn is here for the duration, and we can only hope there is enough of a club left to rebuild quickly once his wizened, icy hand finally releases its death grip on the reins...
Still, we are The Arsenal! I would'nt support any other club even if I had the choice
Yes, agree with Tyke.
I think that another 4th place, or even 3rd if we are miles away from the top spot, just isn't good enough this season unless coupled with another cup win.
You wouldn't mind so much if we had a team full of 22 year olds, but pretty much our entire squad (players that are worth talking about i.e. not Sanogo) bar Chambers and Ox is in or past their peak. If Wenger can't achieve success with this squad it's hard to see what it will take for him to do so.
Still, only 8 games in. It's been a pretty shambolic start overall, but a few wins on the bounce from our next few games and things will look better.
We have Sunderland away, Burnley at home, Swansea away, United at home, West Brom away, Southampton at home.
6 winnable games, if we can get back to our style of grinding out wins and take 15 points whilst re-introducing Walcott to the first XI and Giroud to the bench, it will look better
It's a pickle your in, Wenger has built you up to the size and income you have today, but it's clear as anything you need fresh ideas as AW tactics and methods are a decade out of date.
He was never the best tactically (if he was, you would have won the CL with Henry and co) however he constantly makes tactical mistakes and not only that makes the same ones time and time again. It renders me speechless as s Chelsea fan, god knows how you lot felt.
Agree with that, Kings Road.
It's not just tactical mistakes or bad setups either - it's how long he takes to address issues within the squad.
Remember after we sold Vieira we just looked lost in midfield - Gilberto did his best but we missed that imposing figure so much. Of course, replacing Vieira was always going to be so difficult, but 8 years on and we are still missing him!
Spurs to finish above us, the board have low expectations imo as long as we finish higher than them thats ok with the board. I mean when was the last time the board came out and we expect to finish min 3rd & win a trophy. I believe Wenger is paid too much with no incentive to improve the 8m a year regardless of where we finish on the table isnt right. He shpuld be paid a min of 4m a season & the rest based on objectives, 8m only paid if we win the epl or champions league. Would be ironic after all these years of spending frugal that the 1 yr we spend big we miss out on a top4 spot. I dont think we will get tbh just not playing well enough im not just talking about this season even the last few games of last season we werent great. Sanchez is the reason we are where we are atm without him we would be f888ed.
I am not here to defend Wenger as everyone knows that I am very critical with him regarding the progress of the team.
I am concerned about our injury list that spoilt every season our party. That's not normal. We losing players like flies and not for one week, normaly for months. We had a complete team out injured on Saturday as well. No excuse for Arsene to be resistent in the transfer market but surely a reason why we have no consistency.
Wenger is pretty consistent on certain things, GT.
Never buy enough and leave the team with paper thin squad. Scout and buy youth players for the future but not taking good care of the existing team by ignoring position(s) that requires immediate reinforcement/upgrade.
4rsenal will get smashed by Barcelona like they usually do in CL, in the 4uarter final, don't forget 4th place in PL like they usually do, and a surprise 4th round defeat at Sunderland or some rubbish team like that who played like it was the WC Final.
Are injuries which you lot keep getting every year down to the training regime at the club. Maybe you need different backroom staff.
Just be greatful with what arsene is doing. He hasn't got oil money.......
We spend over £80M in the transfer window and somehow we seem weaker than last season.
-----------
I think many people are forgetting only 2 of them are actual additions to the squad, the rest were brought as replacement due to players leave on Frees/Sold.
Fabianki - Ospina
Vermaelen - Chambers
Sagna - Dubuchy
Only 2 real signing were Sanchez and Welbeck and they have both done well imo.
We needed a CF, DM and CB before the window even opened and we only got a CF on the last day of the transfer windown due to an injjury to Giroud.
You'll miss all those pretty triangles
I'm completely bewildered by our injury list. I really thought we had a new fitness coach who would break this curse, but it's worse than ever.
It's all very very disheartening, and I totally share the OP's existential gloom.
Especially as Fabregas helps Chelsea drive ever forward, whereas last season they were easily dismissable.
The fitness coach was never going to sort it out quickly, but we have had this problem with injuries for a number of years so why have we only just appointed someone to look into it.
The additions to defence we need and have needed are obvious to someone with a basic knowledge of football. I see Ospina is out for Andelecht and Scez is suspended. Happy days.
How the fak has Ospina manged to get himself injured. His big chance and hes blown it due to Injury.
Stange as this always happened to Fabiasnki. When he finally got a chance he got injured and Szez regained his place.
You can only put injuries down to bad luck for so long. Virtually every team has an injury crisis at some point in the season, but it always seems longer and deeper at Arsenal. Interestingly too, you aren't one of the more physical sides who you might expect to sustain more injuries through fatigue. There seems to be something wrong with the overall conditioning, and as mentioned above, when it's lasted for so long I think the buck for this one also has to stop with the manager.
As for how long he'll last. It'll probably take a proper car crash of a season to do the tirck.

"You can only put injuries down to bad luck for so long"
None of us put it down to bad luck
We stopped using the bad luck excuse 3 years ago, it's clear that everything at Arsenal is happening for a reason, we just don't really know what it is. That's why the buck has to stop with the manager.
Still think most of you lot are in for a shock this season......

In that when we FINALLY get going, we will be one of the strongest teams in Europe. Even better than the first half of last season where we were one of the best teams in the country. We have so much potential, its so fustrating its not yet been released.

your having a laugh right?
Still no quality DM and quite frankly we might need to start looking at a replacement for Per as hes been truly shocking this season.
Godfather thats not based on any sound evidence, just a dream. Lol I used to think that years ago we would hit form and the team was underperforming. Truth is were prob the fourth best team in the league & will finish there.
I too am very indifferent to the team. Escstatic when we won the fa cup but reality hit hard in the summer.
the shad recruitment like many things was reactive rather than proactive thing to do, weve had injury crisis for years yet only last season did we look to investigate.
for me arsenal like any other business if the management structure and personnel stays the same for too long complacency sets in and efficiency drops.
