Hopefully that means we won't signing him.

Why would Utd do this..? Is LVG close to Valdes?

His experience and guidance would be great for De Gea and Anders, I never rated him that high but he wasn't all bad at Barcelona.

Yeah, apparently Van Gaal knows him pretty well.

@CheGiaevara: Worth mentioning that Valdés and van Gaal have a very, very good relationship. Van Gaal was the one who gave Valdés his debut at Barcelona.

@CheGiaevara: I also believe Valdés mentioned van Gaal in his "farewell speech" at Barcelona. Pointed him out as one of those who have him a chance.

United's goalkeeper coach also worked with Valdes at Barcelona during Van Gaal's tenure.

Valdes could teach De Gea a thing or two about coming off his line.

Say what you like about Valdes' commanding of his box, but there aren't many keepers better coming off their line to mop up for the defence.

Underrated keeper. Too easy to just claim he wasn't that great because the 10 players ahead of his were so good and kept the ball for most of the game.

If he has something he can teach De Gea then what's not to like about this. We also could do with a few more Spanish speaking players at the club.

Yeah there was a time when Valdes was excellent for Barca but was continually overlooked for Spain in favour of Casillas.

Surely this means the end for Anders (and Amos considering his age). I really rate Valdes, he was fantastic for Barca last season and I think if he had stayed fit they would be the current champions of Spain.

No it doesn't. It means he's training with the club. He cannot play unless we offer him a contract, something that isn't alluded to.

Beckham did the same thing with Arsenal a couple of years ago.

Valdes is past it. Although like others said, De gea and others can learn a thing or two from him.

The Luke Show

How is he 'past it'?

He's only 32 which is fairly good for a keeper and was doing fine for Barca during his time there. Last time I was in Barca my Barca friend told me the reason he was leaving (and at the time hoping of joining Monaco) was to do with him and his Dad starting a property developing company that went drastically wrong and he needed to move to get more money. Not entirely sure how true that is?

Just a hunch. Usually high profile players like Valdez doesnt find it that difficult to find a club even if they are suffering from an injury, especially if they are available for free.

Its months since he has been released from Barca and still no club took a chance him. Clubs are steering clear of him so there has to be some kind of a reason for it.

But United and Liverpool are interested, as were Monaco before his injury.

He's coming back from a serious injury and will be demanding high wages, not every club will interest him. No rush needed from him as he's still coming back from injury, he decided not to renew his barca contract, not the other way round.

Nobody took a punt on him. even when he is available for free, its not like there are loads of worldclass GKs going around are there? guy was the #1 for Barca few months ago, now he cant find a club to train with.

We just have to wait and see I guess but I got a feeling there is something seriously wrong with his injury. otherwise some club would have sign him by now

Said this before but what we need in our back 5 is an organiser/leader. Individually we have some excellent players its the collective that isnt working

As good as ddg is he is not yet an organiser and neither are any of those in front of him. An older short term keeper or defender would be ideal at UTD simply to organise the back 4/5 and train them to continue after he leaves.

Like a laurent blanc loan we did before

I'm sure lindegaard was close to leaving in the summer according to his agent. Makes sense having valdes around if lindegaard off in jan.

Hardly a success on the field though was he? He brought a lot of experience and helped players such as Rio but not necessarily on the field where his lack of pace was found out time and time again. De Gea lacks that commanding presence but I don't think dropping him short term for a keeper still regaining his fitness from a serious injury is a good idea at all.

And like Darren said, he's only training with us, not signed so can't play. He can still bring experience and advice to De Gea every day in training like Blanc did, similarly Larsson who wasn't particularly great in games for us but brought with him a winning mentality that supposedly rubbed off onto the players.

Football is about so much more than just the 90 minutes on the pitch, so much can be learnt and gained off it too and that's where Valdes can provide some valuable experience.

Smart move from United I'd say.

Victor Valdes is hardly going to organise our defence. He didn't at Barca and they spoke the same language as him.

Puyol and Pep were the organisers in that defence. Valdes was brilliant at mopping up after them. But it's no coincidence that their defence got worse when Puyol got crocked and Pep left.

He wouldn't make any difference to the organisation of the defence. That's down to the coaches working on the training pitch as well as the players playing more matches together.

Dropping De Gea for Valdes would be a stupid idea.

A cb that could do that would help, yes, but it'd also help if he was a good defender on the pitch. So not like Blanc was for us.

Just made me think. Watch terry throughout our games. He's always looking across his line of defenders. Always signalling to them. Always talking to them. In constant dialogue with them. You need someone like that
