Rio Ferdinand or John Terry

Close, but I personally preferred Ferdinand because of his athleticism - I've never really been a fan of being forced to sit a little deeper because one of the CBs lacks pace.

Campbell was more athletic than both of them, but on-the-ball, wasn't as good as either.

I always thought King had the potential to be the best English CB, but obviously injury problems curtailed that.

It's crazy to think how good England's defensive options were 10 years ago: Campbell, Terry, King (note that he played every league game for Tottenham in the 2004/2005 season, so the injury problem weren't a real hindrance at the time), Ferdinand, Carragher, and Woodgate all at the peak of their powers, with Cole and Neville as full-backs.

Terry was superior in virtually every way other than pace. Rio, very good defender but overrated, Terry has been underrated through his career because he's not liked.

Ridiculous human being don't be ridiculous and have an opinion .

It isn't even close, Terry is / was the far better player.

Someone is overrating Terry.

In what regard?

It seems Terry is a good as Franco Baresi

posted on 17/11/14

I didn't say that, make stuff up to suit your argument, polarize views and enhance quotes but that isn't what I said, I'm saying Terry is far better than Rio, not Baresi. But hey ho.

If Terry is far better than rio he's as good as Franco Baresi

posted on 17/11/14

Because you're saying Terry is far better and on another level.

I have no qualms with people that rate Terry higher than Rio, there's a case to be made, but to suggest he's on another level is daft.

By what logic?

Didn't Henry say King was the best Defender he has played against?

Anyway for me all things considered Terry was a better CB than Rio.

This, it's frankly moronic to think he's on another level or miles better, I'd question whether that person could sit the right way round on the toilet tbh

Mex

Barasi was not only on another level but I'd say another planet compared to Terry and Rio.

Rio

I don't really consider it close

Rio even at 30 was far more comfortable on the ball than Terry ever was. I don't know how you can overlook that. Distribution and passing Rio is miles better.

Man marking and one on one Rio is better aswell!

You are soo biased it's unbelievable

He was on another level than both certainly

Baresi was up there on his own. Also, one of the dirtiest centre backs I've ever seen. He was just very good at getting away with it.

Baresi was tame compared to Claudio Gentile

Paolo Montero is the dirtiest cb I've ever seen.

Montero was facking great

posted on 17/11/14

It is a lazy stereotype that underrates Terry on the ball, he's first rate with the ball at feet.

posted on 17/11/14

He is not better than Rio! To be honest rio was a lazy facker and could have been better if he tried more but talent wise he is actually in a different class to Terry!

We are only comparing the 2 because Terry applied himself better
