Apparently, Pardew is a very good coach. A lot of players and managers rave about him. Still a cµnt though

I can never make my mind up about Pardew, that’s the thing, we don’t always have an appreciation for what they’re like to work with during the week. Some are very much managers, others real coaches and you don’t always appreciate sides of their game you’re not privy to. There must be some who just don’t have any redeeming features who get hired by clueless chairmen.
I like this topic. I havnt read it all OP because too long but I beleive I could run a formation and management as well as most managers, however the big difference is respect that managesr like mourinho, or ex players would get.
Even now though I believe managers pick players due to personal relationships and such and managers are often criticised with the defending party then saying"so you think you know better than 'said manage'" and I believe thats a terrible argument. We see the plaeyrs as much as the managers do and want just as profitable results as managers do.
Rambling on a bit but I believe that most people on this board could pick a chelsea 11 and bench and nobody would have mikel on it, yet mourinho picks him.
Also I believe none of us would of sat back against city or utd and we would of got 6 points from them two games, however would we of struggled in other games?
Managers do have faults and rather than being clueles I just believe some don't know how to deal with the pressure, dont man manage well and have their favourites who baffle the supportes.
Rodgers. Very average manager.
Martin O'Neill never takes a training session. He leaves it to his coaches. Not even sure if he gets involved in tactics. He just 'man-manages' his players and 'motivates' them. Is that a good manager?
Roy is another ...... Good shout
"I’m sure given a decent enough squad to work with we’d be able to avoid relegation, particularly if you’ve got leaders on the pitch."
Absolutely disagree with this. It isn't that simple.

If you've got a good team and you get results I guess so, perhaps he realises his limitations and does his best work in the areas he knows will have the biggest impact. Seems a little odd though, if that is the case you couldn’t call him a complete manager but if the team is part of the package is that wrong? Look at Brian Clough and Peter Taylor.
Have you ever listened to a manager give real insight on tactics, team dynamics, motivation etc and realize how much you didn't know about managing! Sometimes, I get my mind blown by reading some interviews and I consider myself quite knowledgable.
Avram Grant what a joke of a manager!

I stand by that, we may not be able to react as quickly as a proper manager to the opposition or motivate quite as well but we could all get some basic training and put out a decent enough team. My point really is some teams virtually run themselves, good managers get the best from them and probably add 20% to their points total at the end of the season.
It's not just tactics though. You have to have good man-management skills. I think there are some managers out there, say like Neil Warnock for example, who can be good at man-management and so prosper in the Championship, when tactics don't really come into it, but put them among tougher competition and they'd struggle. Likewise I think more tactically minded managers would struggle in the Championship.
I think coaches can be of more benefit than some managers. There's a famous Italian coach (can't think of his name....was in last month's fourfourtwo) who's working with AC Milan who's sole job is working on set-piece routines in the final third. He's so good that he has an incredible stat where he's been directly responsible for 15-20 goals a season for whatever team he's coached. You don't hear about people like that....the manager gets all the credit.

my opinion of Brendam Rogers is that he is a very good coach but that he follows how to manuals on the management side of things. I htink he has a large library of middle management guides he follows religiously.

That empty envelope stunt was straight out of some management book circa 1982.
