I think the Jocks have a verdict of unproven, perhaps that would be the fairest result.

If you're a person who says he has been tried and our justice system has found him guilty, therefore he is guilty, there is really only three scenarios that play out if he has it overturned.

A) You take the decision at face value, there must be doubt, so the right decision. Which to me would imply you are a person who needs others to tell you how to think.

B) You still think he is guilty, Which would fly in the face of earlier comments on the sanctity of the legal system, and make you a bit of a hypocrite.

C) You'll be unsure either way. As a lot of us are currently, but are told we are sticking up for Evans and making excuses for him

I can understand why you'd be hesitant to give a straight answer to it

Citing John Terry as my precedent

Call me a leftie or whatever but I believe in protecting the vulnerable in society.

A professional footballer who - regardless of consent - took advantage of a woman while his friends watched, and his girlfriend was at home, does not fall into that category.

That does not mean I'd condemn him either way, but my gut tells me he is not innocent.

People seem to be under the impression that this girl has made up false claims., why? From all accounts she's been hounded on social media, had to move house 5 times for her own safety etc, obviously been cross examined by highly paid defence lawyers.. what about giving her a chance to live a normal life?

She rang the police after waking up the next day, for the fun of it? We can argue technicalities of drunk encounters but she obviously thought she was raped.

For all the "innocent people have been found guilty before" there are all the cases that justice was done, or indeed a guilty man gets off for lack of evidence.

A highly controversial subject that will forever come down to perception of facts. Ultimately though we as a society have to accept the rule of law whether we like it or not.

I haven't signed any petitions etc as I wouldn't try to tell a club who they should sign other than my own.

Why on earth would we do that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because the whole argument that Ched Evans should be free to do whatever he wants ignores the woman's rights to do whatever she wants.

This would set a precedent that if a woman can't remember you can do what you like and it's your word against hers.. you don't even have to say sorry if you're found guilty and still be rich and famous, forget the fact that the victim had their life ruined.

TL;DR

To make you think about the victims of rape.

Snorting crack

There was a bit of cannabis and cocaine in her system.

That does not mean she wasn't a victim and the implication that she somehow deserved it while still a victim of rape in the eyes of the law is offensive to me.

She can't even live in the town she wants because people like you seem to think she shouldn't accuse a footballer of rape because she's done drugs!

Moving house 5 times because of fear of what would happen to you must ruin your life.

Surely if the woman cannot remember and there are no physical signs of rape then lawfully and morally you cannot condemn a man for rape.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Witnesses etc. You don't know all the evidence, yet are happy to try and make every case for a convicted rapists innocence.

I find that offensive.

You don't know what happened in that room.

I've had girlfriends that talked in their sleep etc. She might have been so wasted she thought Evans was McDonald waking her up for round two.

WE DON'T KNOW.

But for the sake of a decent society that looks after the victims of crime, respects the law, and women, for now at least can't you see how to make a case for him would be in bad taste and offensive to people affected by cases like this?

That is the big misconception. Nobody is excusing evans actions we are merely pointing out that there is not enough evidence to prove he is guilty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm pointing out we don't know all the evidence, to claim you do is looking to excuse someone by reading into things that aren't there. Or certainly the jury didn't see.

So people are not allowed to have an opinion? She hasn't moved houses because of people like me she has moved because some idiots have threatened her. That has nothing to do with me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's people who refuse to respect the rule of law, her story as a victim of rape. In that they are like you.

Maybe you didn't threaten her but the whole assumption that there's no smoke without fire in Evan's case is wrong.. and considering the jury's verdict morally and literally wrong in the victim's case.

Who doesn't have the footballing community behind her but against her, lots of angry young idiots waiting to abuse her on twitter coz she a druggy what was loving it....
