How could finishing in the top 4 look a long way off when we were in the top 4 and within touching distance of second place?

Ji, the signs were there that he was implementing a new philosophy. Some wanted to see how it panned out. There were frustrating team selections but the signs were there. I even wanted us to keep playing 3-5-2.

We also did not hoof the ball to Fellaini, did you not see the presentations to the media?

If you guys want your moment in the sun for seeing such subtle things as possession stats and the ability to notice that we sold some players and had some injuries, then let me be the first to pat you on the back.

Mud - how did 4th look a long way off?

Yes we were 4th but had and still have a number of tough fixtures ahead.

So we were in 4th but looked a long way off the top 4?

We looked a long way off FINISHING 4th. Still 7 yo go now by the way including Chelsea, arsenal and City

I have always maintained, let us see how the season pans out and then we make a judgement. The guy had us in the top 4 for most of the season which was the target.

I did not understand why people were calling for his head. If he had performed as horribly as Moyes did last season, I would have been first in line knocking him.

So we looked way off finishing in the top 4 but we're in the top 4?

I'm confused

Thing is, you're allowed to say things like ' United under Fergie in the 80's were atrocious, he had to change things or feck off '

No one in their right mind said give him a few years well be winning titles again.

Same with LvG. Thankfully things are changing.

Fergie implemented changes from day one. It just took a while for those changes to bear fruit. SAF didn't suddenly "change" something in 1993 to become successful overnight.

mud, we were talking about months ago when we were poor and many thought LVG should get the boot, not now, although we are still a long way off securing 4th with 7 very tricky games to go.

Yes, we were still in the top 4 then. So the whining as you can now see was pointless. You were whining for something that did not happen.

It was pointless, that is what people were saying. Wait and see before you whine

posted on 7/4/15

Oh yeah it was pointless because if forgot it was all part of LVGs plan for shaw, young, carrick, di Maria and RVP to be unavailable and to re instant here and mate with Rooney at Cf. Tw4t

posted on 7/4/15

Now, now, no need for name calling. I really do not understand why people feel the need to whine for events that will not happen.

Depends what you think won't happen. I want at least third and wanted a cup win.

It's an interesting point actually.... I dare say the club's minimum requirement was CL qualification.... But after such a big outlay and LvG carrying alot of managerial credentials.... I wonder if the club, as well as some fans, were hoping for quite a bit more than just the bare minimum.

posted on 7/4/15

Well I would expect Mud, after repeatedly referring LVGS record would have expected more than 4th in his first season.

I was hoping for more but wasn't expecting it tbh. People seem to evaluate the club in a vacuum without considering what goes on at other clubs.

Yes we spent money but were we the only club that did so? How much did we spend the year before that compared with other clubs? And the year before that? And before that?

It suits a lot of agendas to keep mentioning "£150m spent" but how many players needed replacing? What about the £30m we recouped in cash from player sales? What about the £100m or so that Liverpool spent - after finishing light years ahead of us last season? What about the money that Chelsea, City and Arsenal spent - despite already being better than us?

All that matters is how much MORE money we spent than our rivals - the figure spent on its own is completely irrelevant. Let's say we spent on average 75m more than our rivals in the summer...We all know that was never going to be enough to close the gap and overtake our rivals in one season, right?

If anyone still doubts that we are moving in the right direction after last season's nightmare then I really don't know what will convince them otherwise.

And if anyone truly *expected* us to win a trophy and finish top 3 (i.e. considering anything less than this to be failure) then they have their head in the clouds imo. Either that or they haven't been paying attention over the last 18 months.
