Totally agree. This summer is like no other for me. We don't have the Gerrard comfort blanket anymore and no one knows how this is going to affect the club.

Yesterday was an absolute bummer. The farewell celebrations were a bit OTT. Hardly a single player stood out, unless you consider the Palace team, full marks to them, they murdered us. The four LFC strikers have a total of 8 goals between them this season; that says it all for me. Our defence has resorted back to the rabbits-caught-in-the-headlights mode, Moreno went forward once, Raheem, bless 'I'm, seems to have been told that he can play like that, time and again, and the big guns will be fighting over his signature. Good luck in your future career elsewhere Raheem.
Rogers? A disastrous end to a poor year. Yes, expectations were too high at the start of the season, but he will have to do better next season, including beating not just City, but all of the top four, or that should be the target at least.
Beaten by a far better team yesterday, out thought by a more astute manager.

Doom mongers all of you.

5th biggest budget and we finish 5th; pull your heads out of your backsides we aren't a top four club at the moment so be a fan and support the club.

Typical FSG apologist view.

It's 5th biggest wage bill by choice of owners. Does not mean the fans cannot aim high.

Oh you're such a spoilt child Kash.

Where is this magical money supposed to come from. We're already teetering on the edge for FFP.

posted on 17/5/15

Who says we will finish 5th?

Swansea win and we could still finish 8th yet.

We won't win at Stoke.

posted on 17/5/15

Didn't we have the fifth biggest budget when we finished second and played exceptional football? I suppose having the fifth biggest budget means yesterday's performance and others like it are acceptable?

posted on 17/5/15

You've totally missed the point.

2nd last season was a massive overachievement we (other than the hugely deluded morons on this board) can all see that.

I'm not happy about yesterday's performance but it was a nothing game in the grand scheme of things.

Whether or not last year was an over achievement or not, it happened. By writing last season off as an over achievement is missing the point. It happened and we didn't use the opportunity to cement our place in the top 4. Finishing 3rd or 4th would not have been unacceptable. So say we had finished 5th last season, what would have been an acceptable position this season? With £115m spent.

But br said it himself unwittingly if u spend over 100 mil u r expected to challenge!

Not all his fault though. Fifth is about right for us based on wage structure and that is an area fsg have to decide how they want to move forward with.

R1 I really think k it will be better if we don't finish in europa places. I would like to think we are deliberately doing that but highly unlikely. We have been really poor in the last. 5 months

Rodgers had his chance to sign players last summer with the Suarez money and the prospects of CL football. It wasn't spent wisely enough and trying to attract the top players now we're not in the elite competition is going to be very difficult.

I can't see Rodgers signing a big name. Expecting more mid table players to arrive this summer.

With a back 4 we have been terrible all season.

We had a good run with a back 3 apart from the big games when it mattered most.

It's been a poor season and no amount of budget apologising can change that.

Man Utd have been bang average all season yet will finish comfortably ahead of us, possibly by as many as 12 points, certainly at least 6.

Man City have been a shadow of last season's team yet will finish as many as 17 pts ahead.

It hasn't been good enough.

I don't care how much we spend on wages.

With my eyes I can see Man City and Man Utd haven't got value for their money, so if we did get value we would be a lot closer to them.

What's even more galling is that, had we made 2 or 3 quality signings last summer we would have probably beat United to 4th. They were poor last season, poor this season but will no be poor next season.

I think a bigger name manager would have more luck attracting players, despite a potential wage barrier.

Rodgers has no name on the continent, no line of players who have played under him before. It's an issue that won't change until he wins something big (which is looking increasingly unlikely).

Someone on here was accused of being an "FSG apologist"...what on earth does that mean? And why are your owners taking any flak when they have made ample funds available to the manager, funds which have been mostly poorly spent?

According to this your wages to turnover are similar to all the big clubs, who are between 55% and 60% (United are lower at 50%), you made a £1m profit after a loss of £50m in the previous year, and the owners have injected a £70m interest-free loan into the club. What more do you want? Really?

Don't really agree with this article.

What exactly will happen that is so bad? We've just had a bad season and will probably finish fifth with a couple of cup semi finals.

I've seen some people on this thread throughout the season say as fans we need to realise where we are as a club and be realistic but now we're at the crossroads of damnation?

Seems contradictory.

It's the problem with going for a British manager.

A foreign manager will have already been successful somewhere else, so will be able to attract players from the league in which they have been successful.

British managers are getting left behind partly because they can't attract players because they have no record of success.

Steve McLaren would probably have a better chance of attracting players just because he has done something abroad (not that I would want him).

posted on 17/5/15

Who said it's a crossroads of damnation?

It's a crossroads because FSG have now had 5 years with little to show for it and Rodgers has had 3.

Do you think match going fans will accept that for much longer?

I don't.

I think we will see a Hicks and Gillette style backlash soonish if things go badly this summer/next season.
