Thanks Hydy! 👍🏻

What a cheap and drab looking programme. A programme is supposed to be a momento of the day, not something that you'd eat fish and chips from.

Some graphic designers and marketing companies are clueless. It's not easy doing something different, but that programme stood out for all the wrong reasons.

I used to work at a printers when the early nineties programmes were produced for Town. Two of us would print the programme in full colour and the programme was very popular. Unfortunately, we lost the contract to Attik design. They did improve the look of the programme, they modernised it. I'm not sure who was responsible for the newspaper look.

The newspaper style was an odd decision as within the publishing world smaller has been the trend for years now. People don't want to lug something around and a programme needs to fit into a back pocket at the very most. To be honest I get the lineup info from the BBC app and thanks to sites like this, DATM and BBC I know all about the other team and whats going on so don't see much point in spending money on one. I am taking my lad next year so will buy some just as mementos if nothing else.

As for a road bike, do you find a 54cm comfy Hydy? I have about a 30" inside leg and some seem to suggest a 51cm and some a 54cm. The trouble is I have short legs but longer torso so going to go to a local bike shop for their advice over the right size.

I do think I will get a disc brake bike as I love them on my mountain bike and all the reviews for them on road are excellent and it just seems some people are a bit stuck in the past. Im thinking of the Cannondale Synapse or BMC GF01 as I don't want an out and out race bike and these two get loads of awards. Trouble is it seems to be coming to that time when they are getting ready to try and persuade you to get the latest model and running down stock on last years models.

I'd get a 53 or 54 cm bike tbh. Just my preference, but with you having a longer body, it'll probably help too.

Cross training bikes have disc brakes, but not a lot have hydraulic ones, so there's not much difference tbh. Plus these bikes are a bit heavier than normal Road bikes.

The more you spend the better you get (obvious I know) my bike has shimano 105 parts and they're brilliant, not the best by a long stretch.

The bikes I'm interested in have the Shimano hydrolic disc breaks like on my 29er and the stopping power is immense! I've read they way 700g more than the equivalent rim break bike and you just don't notice it. My experience with rim breaks was scary in the rain so happy to go with discs. Going to get a test ride soon to check a couple out

I've got hydraulic disc brakes on my mountain bike. Magura Julies. Great for stopping, pain in thearse to bleed!

As for rim brakes, mine are decent on my road bike, I've clocked myself doing 44.2 mph(downhill) and they stopped me fine. Like you say, not that great in the wet.
