it is actually interesting that modern music started in earnest a lot later than films.
there are some good examples prior to the start of that list, for example a guy called robert johnson was making some cool stuff in the 30s, as was fat's waller.
but whereas the film industry was really getting into gear in the early 30s, music didn't go so til you could probably say the mid 50s. then it exploded.
