Speaking of Hunt for Red October the third one in the movie series was Clear and Present Danger which was a goodun

Not a bad shout, yeh, that was good film. The ambush scene was great.
Saying that aboot how great McTiernan was… that Rollerball film, is a disgrace. Really would like to know what happened with that.
That whole sequence shot in Night Vision, is a disgrace.
And then he was gone…

Does The World's End count with it being the third in The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy ?

Yeh fam, of course it is,,, but it’s not better than Shaun of the Dead, or Hot Fuzz.
I prefer Hot Fuzz actually, thought it was brilliant.

True but it holds it's own nicely in the trilogy in the way that ROTJ did without being quite as good as the first two.

does that predator have downs?

Chatting aboot McTiernan made me wanna just look into what’s he doing today… and he seems to be well, and spending a lot of time in Europe, mainly England and France. And he’s done interviews, and attended film festivals.
In short… He wasn’t done for Fraud as I previously said, but apparently he lied to the FBI in an interview they were conducting, served aboot 10 months before being released. He wasn’t even in a jail. More like summer camp. Says he even enjoyed himself.

Says Him and Hollywood studio system is done.
He was aboot to go into production on a small film and Covid hit, ruining everything.

His last 2 films being RollerBall and Basic.
I saw Rollerball, but weirdly Basic, I can’t remember even seeing any promotion for it just passed me by.
But Rollerball was way off base for what we were used to seeing from McTiernan.

But now it all makes sense, that he comments on them 2 films as being the worst experiences with interference from producers and the like, and cos he was under contract he couldn’t walk away.
Rollerball was visually boring, the film was boring and badly edited. I don’t know what the deal was with Basic.
But I’ll take Superbs advice, and not watch it.

It’s a crying shame we lost this Director and robbed just when the man was hitting his prime.
Btw, he actually turned down the following films to direct…
Die Hard 2, Predator 2, Terminator 3, Batman Forever and Mission Impossible.
He just didn’t want to repeat or copy. He kinda got inspired by Kubrick, where his films were never the same, and different every time.
So we kinda got a ‘Kubrick’ of Action movies…

And btw he agrees with me, that when he saw the Predator 2 script he thought it was trash. The Ending with the Predator spaceship was the original ending for Predator 1, and he changed it.

Shame he turned down Terminator 3 and Batman Forever. Intrigued to think what he would have done with them.

Biggest shame is that he never came back to a proper Predator sequel with Arnie.
