Just saw Dune:
The acting was broadly good, the production design and score were excellent....
otherwise I was distinctly underwhelmed tbh.
Highly predictable, very boring set pieces, thematically obvious. I mean, a lot of that is the source material's fault but I was bored through most of it.

Now it’s been said, if you haven’t read the book, cos it’s only half of a film, people may get lost and not appreciate it.
I don’t have any urge to see it. But technically meant to be spectacular..
Here's the thing, I wasn't that stunned by it in that sense.
The cinematography is just ugly imo.
Also, the action sequences were predictable and quite laboured, and even the sandworm was a bit....meh, really. Didn't do anything interesting really.
Ugly? In all my years, never heard a film described as that!
I haven’t read the book, and it’s never interested me.
But Denis made Blade Runner which I really liked.
Love him to do a Star Wars.
But that’s interesting that with the hype it’s getting, that was your reaction to it.
So far most of the talk of the blockbusters have been underwhelming.
Maybe for `Shang `chi, I haven’t really heard glowing positives for the big films.
whut moovies do u think have grate cinematography NPE?

Arrival is one of my favourite films. Like ever.
I also think Blade Runner 2049 and Incendies were excllent.
But this movie was utterly uninvolving.
NB - it isn't getting universal hype. It's reviews are strong, but not unanimously positive.
Similar RT score to No Time To Die.
It was clearly a labour of love, the problem is I felt the laboriousness.

If we are talking about Villeneuve - Blade Runner 2049 is gorgeous.
Generally - Barry Lyndon, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Days of Heaven, There Will Be Blood...I can name many others.
Has anyone seen the film Black Rock with Spencer Tracy and Ernest Borgnine?
Really want to see it, can’t seem to find it to stream.
my fave moovies of cinematograhic excellence;
Ashes of Time
Blade Runner (both)
Black Death
Paris, Texas
The Witch
Detective Dee n the Phantom Flame
Lawrence of Arabia
Fargo
Good list Forza
I forgot - Mirror by Tarkovsky and 2001 btw, both stunning
Agree with NPE here, Dune is ok. Not sure who are these reviewers given it 10 out of 10 etc. Guessing it's probably back to the size, books should probably be series and not films as basically you do need around 12 hours to do them justice or they just feel rushed/empty.
And if I am to be brutally honest Dune is an ok Sci Fi book/series at best, I think that it only has its status as it was one of the big ones when a lot of these people may have been getting into sci fi and know has been given one of these "classic" labels.
But yeh very bland palette, missing lots of context and story lines that were in the book - like you never know why anything happens it just does - and yeh we also end half way through the first book so never really have any big peaks of story or excitement. Guess we should at least give it to the second film as that is certainly feeling how it should be watched.
Also ugly is pretty spot on for what old DV was moaning about the other day saying it's a cinema must watch. Felt it really struggled with scale.
Like for a 2hr 30 min film.......it's strange to say but not much really happens, when compared with say LotR. But again agree with what NPE says and this is probably more down to the source material.
Very good music and cast, but also I think too many characters as we don't get to see much of them.
