How would you improve football?

"But again, i'm talking about the possibility of a play-off style end of season winner takes all scenario and on that basis IMO Arsenal would have won it."

And NOT deserved to. That's the point

Rugby Union has the same rule about 12 years ago. Gloucester won the 'league' by a clear margin, but lost the playoff to Wasps, who were then undeserved champions. Which is a complete travesty in my book.

Will you concede that if Mourinho had suffered the same amount of injuries to his back four, Matic and Hazard that we did to our like for like players - Chelsea would have lost a significant amount of points?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They'd have lost points, but they'd still have won the title.
------------------
So by that logic, their defence, Matic and Hazard only won them an extra eight points?!

Have another go.

Immediate 10 game ban for players found guilty of feigning injury and trying to con ref, this could be done within hours of a match finishing, plenty of video evidence available

My idea in the OP and one that works well in Australia is for there to be a minor Premiership champion - which would have been Chelsea but also play-offs to decide who the champion would be. Based on last season it's fair to say that when both sides were injury free Arsenal were as good as Chelsea. So with a May play-off we'd see who the best team really was rather than one who had the least injuries.

Great idea Robb. JT could have lifted two prem trophies in one season

The term 'deserved' is all relative though. If you take part in a league where you know there is an end of season play-off and lose then you didn't deserve to win.

the playoff model works fine for Rugby and nearly all the rest of global team sports.

I wouldn't want it, but football is the odd one out in not doing it.

Eh?

Not exactly the same thing is it?

Mourinho can organise average players to get results too- and he often has done in the past.

That's too subjective. Wont work. How can you 100% guarantee a player has feigned injury or tried to con the ref?

It's a ridiculous idea.

Chelsea would have qualified for the top-eight in November- I'm sure the TV companies and their fans would really love the procrastination.

How many times Mr C do you see a player rolling around in agony then realise his team are on the attack and jump to their feet and sprint towards goal?

Happens all the time

That's not proving he was faking though. Unless you get medical doctors in to examine him. He could be jumping up and trying to run off the pain.

The TV companies would love the play-offs more though. And coming top of the league has its benefits. Sometimes the top teams skips a round of the play-offs and has the second leg at home when they do play their round.

One rule I'd introduce is that if a player gets injured and is taken off the field- the guy who injured him has to go off with him so the numbers are fair, either until he reenters play or a sub comes on.

Even for accidental injuries?

Straight red cards for the new fashion of goalkeepers falling on the ball injury time.

If there's too much doubt then you know you can't give the punishment, it's pretty simple.

of all of the (mostly absurd) suggestions, I think removing the ability to head back to your own keeper to catch it has legs. You'd get a lot more pressing and goals I reckon.

Scrap extra time.

It was such a relief not to have to sit through it watching the Copa games at the weekend.

Now this i'm on board with. Go straight to penalties.

In the Cups I'd make it golden goal in extra time.

if someone scores, just end it. Far more exciting.

Every team has to play a secondary keeper for a period of ten minutes during the 90.

This secondary keeper must have no arms.

He's not injured remember, just feigning it

Kaisers, gotta disagree mate. The Golden Goal thing was the worst thing ever. One goal winning it was very un-'football'. Once the goal was scored that was it. The other team should always have a chance to score an equaliser, even if they only have 30 seconds to do it.

Only during a silver goal period of an Aussie style playoff

3 other balls on the pitch
Rocket boots
no yellow cards just straight reds
bigger goals
fireworks
dance offs to replace coin toss

Done and done.
