Liverpool's Lukaku but not as good........

posted on 18/8/15

People saying he is just a target man are idiots as this guy has so much more to his game.

true, though it did make me laugh a bit that his best 2 chances were from crosses

haha, but that was more a case of busting a gut to get in front of the defence to meet it....its the lazy comments around needing to score headed goals i was referring to

it was good to see him breaking the lines and trying to get onto through balls aswell, wasnt sure if he was the type to do that

People said they are worried about Benteke not fitting the system, well last night would suggest otherwise. I really liked the look of the way were playing, Coutinho was looking even more effective than usual

The variety of our game to go wide now is really mixing things up for us, Clyne and Ibe gave us great width and Benteke a target for the crosses to hit whilst also opening up more space for Coutino in the middle, he should have had a couple last night. Only one game against Bournemouth however.

Coutinho - Brilliant

posted on 18/8/15

Put more effort in and ran more last night than Balotelli has since he stepped of the plane from Milan.

Yes he's a big man that can win the ball in the air and hold it up but I think he combined really well with Coutinho on the deck aswell.

2 league games, 1 goal and if he keeps that up and ends the season with 20 goals he's worth the money!

Thought his pass to Coutinho from the wing was pinpoint, works hard to keep going for the ball.

Only real fault in the game was he should have put that late chance to bed but can see why he just hit the crossbar.

I think we're going to love him.

He has started well, which is always a bonus for new strikers.

Too early to make any long term conclusions.

I can see him working brilliantly with sturridge aswell. clever enough to play the intricate 1-2's and strong enough to win the ball and lay off to sturridge.
If we had him last season, we would have walked into the top 4

His touch was very good. Should have had another and were it not for an uncharacteristic poor first touch could have had an assist as well.

It's such a good option for us and we mixed our passing well.

Our attacking patterns need work but we created some good quality chances and I think we will see an improvement again by next Monday night.

If somehow we could scrape a win, and I suspect Benteke would be a major part in doing that, then we are in good shape.

Another clean sheet would be great!

Serious question but we're you really happy with the way you played last night? I went for a pint with my mate (a red) and we were both disappointed with Liverpool, imo Bournemouth were the better team. I was expecting more from Liverpool. Saying that at this stage of the season ( or any part of the season in all honesty) getting the 3 points is the most important thing.

The fee was quite large but I'm delighted we signed him, he comes across as a decent fella too liked how he spoke after the game.

He's the type of striker Arsenal generally struggle with, Kos is an excellent defender but more suited to playing against a smaller, tricky forward, I though Kos marked Suarez better then any other defender in the PL.

I'd like us to play compact v Arsenal and use Benteke as an out, we'll need some pace either side of him to offer support.

Arsenal haven't looked any better then us so far but they do play some great stuff so if we try play them at their own game think we will loose.

I swear not long ago he was 'Spurs-level' (that famous term)

Bournemouth played well, but they created very little by way of clear cut chances...wouldnt say they were the better team.
we played well in 15-20 min periods, where some of our football was very good and i always felt we could go up a couple of gears if we needed to

Is he? Because aside from the opening day of the season in 2013, where he scored from two penalties, he's been pretty quiet in all the other games we've had when he's played against us and we've limited his influence.

Our defenders are strange. They have dealt with some of the best attackers in Europe at times, but then there's days where they have been dragged all over the place by the likes of Jason Roberts and Bobby facking Zamora.

He's not enjoyed loads of success against Mertesacker and Koscielny in the past and I don't see why this game will be much different.

I think it will be a tight game, though. Reckon one side will win but only by a single goal's margin. If this match was a bit further into the season, I'd be more confident but you can never tell with us at the very start.

that's just your bias though

Liverpool underperfomed a fair amount and although had some decent spells weren't convincing. We still have doubts going into the next match.

Bournemouth were surprisingly unintimidated and went for it and for a couple of patches were quite convincing. They can leave with confidence for the next match.

But ultimately they created no real chances and we should have had at least 2 if not 3 more goals despite being unconvincing compared to expectation.

Bournemouth didn't even come close to deserving a draw and we are disappointed (Coutinho of all people) we missed so many good chances to score.

So yes I'm not exactly over the moon with yesterday but there are some positives.

To say they were 'better' on the day is feking lunacy though.

I mean more in the fact that he is a physical player who can use his strength against a defender like Kos, but you'd know more about how he has done against you then I would.

I think if you're playing Arsenal having a physical presence up front can be a big benefit as you can use him as an out ball if you're penned back.

I've been bigging him up for ages. But maybe it's a case for others that he's now played a few games for us......

Serious question, are there people out there really as stupid as this guy?

posted on 18/8/15

I wonder if the performances were exactly reversed and we still got the win would these same people be saying that we thoroughly deserved our win, or would they be saying that Bournemouth were superior for long periods of the game, carried a greater goal threat thus deserved to win?
