So if you finish bottom of your group with zero points, you get nothing. If you finish second in your Europa League group with say 9 points, you get more co-efficient points.

I know which I'd prefer, and those are realistic situations.

More the reason to qualify for the CL group stage then as getting into that will earn you massive amount of money and add prestige to the club. The money has gone up massively with BT Sport coming in. You get £12m just entering group stage. £1.5m per win in group and £0.5m per group draw. The margins especially for a club like Celtic it is huge for long term future.
