I get if you look at stats then Ali didn't have the best record, but for me no boxer has come close to him. I can only assume you haven't watched any of his fights if you think he was all mouth and shuffles?

i never said he was all mouth and shuffle, i said he was a great fighter ( which he was) but overated for me, thats all.

Fair comment, if you think he was overrated then that's your opinion and fair play to you.

You're wrong, but fair play.

Tyson (mike) was probably the last great heavyweight boxer

I think Lennox Lewis deserves to be remembered as a great heavyweight, tbf.

Not every boxer is a knockout specialist. Doesn't mean they are worse boxers - as you say technical skills wins fights as much as knockouts.

If we were to judge boxers only on KOs then many of the greats would be overlooked. Boxing isn't just about knocking someone out, yes it's how you want to win and it's what looks best but some boxers aren't KO specialists, doesn't make them weaker.

Ali wins it for me. Tyson was an animal but he wouldn't intimidate Ali.

As you said about the fighters Ali were taken the distance by, look at Tyson's record and find me a few huge names he took down. Not knocking him as love him as a boxer (also has a very interesting autobiography!) but Ali beat everyone in their prime.

Ali was also never knocked out by the way.

Manchester United 1998-99.

Hammered by Arsenal at Highbury, couldn't beat Arsenal or Chelsea in the league. Humbled by Middlesborough and Sheffield Wednesday plus held 13 times to a draw in the league. Only won 2 out of 6 group games in CL, drawing 7 out of 13 CL games.

That is how I imagine Dunc judges the United treble winning team based on his breakdown of Ali's career

..............

Cheating by his trainer made sure of that.

Very possibly, but sadly we will never know

Have to say Paul Scholes. Top player but very overrated and not deserving to be mentioned along true greats like Zidane and Gerrard.

posted on 2/12/15

depends how you define overrated, by saying he's the greatest sportsman of all time then people are overrating him, he wasnt even the greatest boxer of all time, Sugar Ray Robinson was (just about anyone who is anyone in Boxing rates SRR as the GOAT) but Ali was almost certainly an all time top 10 pound for pound fighter
