LvG Can't Win.
-----------------
Yea, that's the problem
I agree with this part Jay..
"I'm disappointed with quite a few aspects of what LvG is doing, but I can't possibly imagine a scenario where sacking him before Christmas ever works out for the best."
We should kindly terminate his contract at the end of the season, because two top class managers will possibly be available then and we can't afford to miss out on them.
I blame our finishing. Wolfsburg clinical, PSV clinical, Man Utd wasteful.
Also, when a huge part of the fanbase are starting to turn on him then it really doesn't help matters either.
'He's spent way too much money, but he should also spend more money'
Hes spent too much for us too be performing like we are.
yes we still need more players, we should however be doing better.
the whole " he has spent 250 million so must win the league" just shows the mentality of people on here.
people tend to forget that he has also made 95 million(ish) on players that have left the club, but half the people on here just think they can be replaced with magic beans.
LVG has in effect spent 150 million, which given the amount of changes to the squad, isnt that bad a figure.
Jay, problem is in pointing to being level on points with teams is that this time of year most teams are flitting around but the better ones break free in the new year.
Can you honestly see any way (other than buying Cavani or Lewandowski) of us changing the problems we have at the club?
City will start to win most weeks. They're had issues but have always had a gear to change when most needed as seen last night.
For this season to be a success at all we have to keep up with City. I fear they'll start to motor ahead soon unless we deal with the problems we have.
Good article. People are quick enough to say we play boring football and as us to play attacking, exciting football, without asking the questions why we play the way we do.
If they did that, they'd understand.
I think we can save this season if we sack LVG now. Robotic football, Inept tactic and formation, crazy substitutions, poor buys. And mainly the players are not playing for their manager and that is the end for any manager I believe (see Jose). If you think we can do worse than this, you really getting paranoid cos of Moyes's freak season.

Busby, as was explained to you on the thread last night, it wasn't attacking football that lost us the game.
It was 2 set pieces and stupid team selections.

And we have historically played better in the second half of the season so I think that's just a facetious, and completly irrelevant point.
You're completely guessing that City will win more, in the same way people have been saying for months that Chelsea will eventually start winning. In fact, at the start, of the season it looked like no one could match City, until they hit a bit of a bad patch. There is no evidence to suggest that City will suddenly start crushing teams again.
Not to mention, by the time that starts happening (if it does), we're going to be already over half way through the season, making replacing him even more pointless!
I think we need to buy a striker - but my concern is that the cost of the new striker is then used to criticise him more...

In LvG's defence on the team selection, we've been completely ravaged by injuries. Seems like he's trying to make the best out of a bad situation at times. Though some selections are a bit nuts.
TCBK, we're nothing like Chelsea, they're 3 points off relegation, we're 3 points from the top...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
They also forget the only top, top player we have signed was ADM, and include his fee in the money even though we made most of it back.
He;s worked out well for PSG too hasn't he.......
Our average transfer fee last season was about £20m a player, Cities was £40m a player.
LVG has has to rebuild the SQUAD, people forget that. Now we can look to be more picky with signings, only looking at first team players.
Have we historically played better in the second half of a season? When was the last time that actually happened? I think you'd have to go back to maybe 2010-11 for the last time we picked up more points in the second half of a season. We didn't even manage it last year
He's underperforming and us being knocked out of the CL is a failure on his part.
Yes he's done some good but he's also done plenty wrong.
His transfers both buying and selling haven't been great, yes we needed to get rid of a lot of dead wood but at the same time he's left us far too light. Had he given the likes of Hernandez, Kagawa or Welbeck a chance from the beginning then we could have seen some very useful players.
I think it shows a lot that arguably LVG's most successful signing has been a utility player who has been used in 3 different positions. He hasn't really managed to improve any of our offensive players and none of his signings have cemented a starting place and shown their quality.
We may be 3 points off top but I personally don't see us making any kind of challenge for the title, we are too negative and results show that.
Ranieri, Koeman, Klopp, Martinez have all shown in recent years that chances can be made very quickly and that attractive football can be acheived within a short period and on far less budgets than LVG has had.
He stays for now but the excuses this man is getting on a daily bases is becoming ridiculous. Our football is a bore, we have been knocked out of every cup competition under LVG at the second hurdle at the latest, the side is still unbalanced and we aren't seeing gradual improvements, we are seeing side ways steps.
I think Mata for Powell is probably LvG's worst sub at United to date, it's always been his weak point at United but yesterday that one took the biscuit.
And we have historically played better in the second half of the season so I think that's just a facetious, and completly irrelevant point.
You're completely guessing that City will win more, in the same way people have been saying for months that Chelsea will eventually start winning. ------------------------------------------
No, you seem to forget that we're on a very poor run and we're getting worse. Why the hell do you even think we'll suddenly get better?
Why will City get better? Well, they have Aguero, Yaya and Kompany to come back. We have Rooney.
No evidence that City will crush teams again? In the past 7 days they've crushed two sides. Stoke was a bad result but we play them in two weeks and we'll see just how bad a result it was once we've faced them.
C'mon, be honest. Do you really think we're as good as City?
The one thing I think he should be criticised for from a recruitment perspective was letting rvp go and going into the season with only Rooney, particularly when he then didn't set the team up to play to Rooneys strengths.
There are other things I think he could be criticised for, but that's the main one for me.
"It was 2 set pieces and stupid team selections."
Come on, we were missing 8 players. Think before you speak,
You're also forgetting the numberous chances Wolsburg created in open play, we were fortunate they kept missing, same as the West Ham game.
Fact is, when we play this was, we give away a lot more chances, and generally speaking teams are better finishers than we are.
This goes a long way to explaining why LVG would rather we have 5 chances with the opposition having 2 than having 15 each.
I think you just restored my faith in common sense Jay...
Admittedly I thought it was all blindingly obvious and everyone else was just being a bunch of 's though.
Also we had this rubbish about replacing LVG last season, thankfully common sense won over in the end.
"They also forget the only top, top player we have signed was ADM, and include his fee in the money even though we made most of it back. "
We've had 3 windows to buy one and while every club would love an elite player it isn't essential as Ferguson proved time and time again. We need a great team which is made up of 11 players working as a team, if you get that then it can be more effective than any individual.

Crazy I know.
The biggest error Van Gaal commited was selling off about 10 players and not replacing them, leaving us with a ridiculously thin squad when we were entering 4 competitions. Also a thin squad with injury prone players as well, it's complete bonkers.

No, I don't. I don't even think we're as good as Arsenal this season to be honest. But, 3rd best team in the league? Probably.
If we're anywhere close come the end of the season, I would consider this season a success.
Partially agreed Melton - going in with only Rooney was a bad idea, but I don't think keeping RvP was the solution. We really needed to buy an established, top striker. Or even just kept someone like Chicha (I don't understand why we let him go after we let RvP go)
