'Hardly instant though. Finn for a first timer was defending himself for a while against a trained Jedi'....

A wounded, incomplete Jedi and very volatile person.
Who still ended up beating Finn.
Btw, what was that finishing move, it looked like he ripped out Finns Spine!!
And for a Star Wars film, there was a lack of decapitations!
Will Finn be half-machine when we next see him?

Even a severely injured jedi should be able to kill a non jedi with 0 saber skills. It looked like Renn slashed his back or spine with his saber.
-----

Which is probably what was going to happen until Rey intervened?

Kylo Ren is evil but that doesn't make him a good lightsabre fighter and Finn didn't last long at all.

We don't know the extent of his training by Snoke.

By the way, I went to see it for the second time yesterday and its far better on second viewing.

The initial watch was so much to take in but the second time around, I was able to absorb the dialogue and action far better.

I recommend you see it twice - its well worth it !

Interesting read fellas. I've only seen it once so far but planning on a second viewing in early January. If you're a fan of SW then I don't think it's possible to watch TFA as anything other than a fan first time around. I was sat there in wide eyed excitement!

I have issues with some of the film. The destruction of starkiller was just too similar to ANH for my liking. I get why it existed, the destruction of New Republic Senate creates a bit of a vacuum and chaos for the next film but they could have destroyed the weapon without the whole thing blowing up!

The scene with the creatures Han was transporting was a complete waste of time for me. Added nothing and the time could have been better spent on the main storyline.

The main gripe is Rey's sudden force ability. Making the stormtrooper set her free and then getting the better of Kylo Ren felt too much too soon. And more annoyingly made Kylo look a bit weak. I have to say that reading some of this article has made me less irritated, there could be reasons for her strength that haven't yet been revealed. However, as a stand alone film it felt too quick for me. If Han was going to be killed off anyway I'd have preferred him to go by realising the potential in Rey and saving her from his own son. Would have been a more significant ending for him if nothing else.

Really liked the new characters with the exception of Plasma and Snoke but that's simply because we didn't see enough of them.

Kylo's fighting the light and petulance really worked for me. He felt volatile and out of control, neither of which were associated with Vader - so it made him reminiscent without being a carbon copy.

I have to say, I don't see Fin as a jedi. I think he'll be a Han/Lando rebel leader type. It'll be interesting who they pair Chewie up with, assuming they do. Obvious choice would be Fin but think it could work with Poe, albeit he's a x-wing pilot so maybe no room for a co-pilot.

And onto the most interesting of all speculation - Rey's background. I've seen some suggest she's another Han-Leia kid but there was just so little recognition of her from either party that I don't see that as likely. Luke's kid was my guess but have to say I'm intrigued by the Kenobi theory. The use of Ewan McGregor's voice speaking to Rey increases the likelihood for me. To be honest, I kind of hope she's a Kenobi rather than a Skywalker. Always liked Obi Wan, even in the prequels!

Yep the second viewing is the one where things begin to really make sense. I may have to watch it for a 3rd time in Jan because I still think there are some bits I need to watch again.

Did the starkiller base destroy coruscant?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dont think so guv, that was what it was charging up to destroy at the end, think the first set of planets was just a random system

Don't think it was random, they targeted the new republic senate but I don't think it was coruscant. And I thought the charge at the end was to destroy wherever the rebellion was? That's why they had to knock out the weapon? Either way, think coruscant is still in one piece.

Apparently on the Star Wars infinity game Kylo Ren shouts to Rey "Face me, cousin!"

I'd bet a large proportion of my life savings which isn't much, that Rey will be Lukes daughter.

Unless of course the new guy in charge completely throws the script out the window and does a 180 turn on every thing.

Luke's or Leias, one or the other. She's definitely a skywalker

Of course Guv, I agree 100%

Though I will admit reading and thinking about it a little more they missed a trick not doing a film from the middle of all whats happened. The story of Luke and Renn, the building of the first order and the fall of the new jedi order and Ben Solo.

Not sure it makes sense to be Luke's as he'd been a dedicated Jedi after all that happened and wouldn't break the code to have a relationship.

Finally watched the movie yesterday and have to say that I was sadly underwhelmed.

It borrowed so much storyline from A New Hope and just didn't really offer anything that felt particularly new or fresh.

Kylo Ren is just a poor man's Vader if that and I left knowing as much about the First Order as I did going in.

Also no good explanation was really given as to why the Rebellion went from what seemed like an all-conquering victory and the end of ROTJ to near defeated underground Resistance at the beginning of this movie.

Superb reading these comments you have totally missed the point of the film. It is supposed to take elements from a new hope, but take away these similarities and you have an amazing film.

Renn is not supposed to be Vader and thats the point.

And why do you think the rebellion would be all conquering even at the end of rotj the empire was a few million times bigger, in reality all the rebels done was destroy a base manned by a few thousand souls (brutally murdered by the rebels) and kill the empereor and Vader. Yes very highly positioned people, but just 2 people.
