Because in VC's stubborn little peanut brain the only way you can possibly give a brief to the press is if you're at a desk with multiple cameras and journalists in front of you. If it isn't that then it's a leak and he won't listen to anything that suggests otherwise.

BK - you will find I pointed out Untied sell news like no other club a while ago on this very thread so your a bit late there, but well done for catching up.

Your argument could also explain why papers are prepared to print BS about United as they have done for years. Because it sells.

And you still haven't explained what benefit the club get from briefing the media.

Please explain what evidence you have the club 'brief the media'

And I'd didn't make a fool of myself on the 5ex pest thread.
------------------------

I haven't read the whole thread, but if you acknowledged that 'United sell' then it's surprising you can't put this together.

For the last time, no one is outright claiming United benefitted or claiming to know what the club's intentions are other than acknowledging that the relationship between media and any major organisation is a two way street. Giving the media scoops curries favour with the media, which in turn will likely see the club portrayed favourably for the most part (there will be exceptions, again, complex systems produce anomalies) in its reporting. That seems to be one fairly rational explanation.

As for evidence, it's well understood that national and globally recognised companies and organisations have designated PR departments who collude with media to portray a positive image of their brand and increase profitability. It's a vastly more ridiculous suggestion to insinuate that United *wouldn't* brief the media.

There is evidence to support it, just read a few of the retired journalists books (or even Fergusons, he mentions a journalist he would give stories to too).

Imagine trying to discuss with VC whether that dress was black and blue or white and gold.

..............

You would undoubtedly have trouble. Anyone normal wouldn't have any trouble at all.

I rarely laugh out loud at things I read but this did the trick.

Reddevilsdouble is having a similar mare. I answer his questions and he just ignores it, repeats his original question and claims that no one can answer him.

BK - the only example people give of the club 'bri ring the media' is the Moyes sacking) how did this Currie favour with that emendation when we were slated by the media for leaking it first.

As I said "Iv no evidence to support it, cannot tell you why they would do it, and a lot of what is reported is incorrect, but I'm convinced the club brief the media"

Lol VC, I see what you did there. Easily digressed away from main argument which you know is true(clubs leaking/briefing to media) and converted it to difference between briefing and leaking news.

Crafty

.................

Nothing crafty about it. It is basic common sense.

Untied sells was my point BK. This Equally supports the widely accepted argument that the press print BS and sometimes to collude to give the BS credibility.

Firstly, melton has just cited Fergie himself on briefings and giving information to the media.

Secondly, you seem to think people are suggesting that all stories about a team are the result of briefings. Of course much of it isn't correct. We're talking about particular examples, not a general rule of thumb.

As for the media 'slating' it. Firstly I think you're exaggerating how much of a 'slating' it got, and secondly, if we pretend it's true... because it sells! It appears contradictory if you don't understand the systemic makeup of the media. I've already directed you to the right place to look but you're apparently not bothering to review the work cited yourself.

Anyway, away from all the stupidity. I found out that Spain and Italy both play games on weekdays in the morning, what's that all about? Who the hell can go to the games?

The media were briefed by the club that one of their fans, an old crusty guy, likes to argue with people for no good reason.
