..would take relegation (or low league position) as long as the football was entertaining and the players would show commitment and fight.
==================================
Is that even possible (to get relegated like that) ?

it isn't. dumb article.
I think we fans look forward to a game more if we expect an entertaining performance, and we enjoy the 90 minutes more when you are entertained, but as soon as the whistle blows we think about what the result means.
For me (a Spurs fan), under AVB, although I still watched as many games as I possibly could, the adrenalin wasn't there - as I knew I would just be looking forward to hopefully seeing a good end result.
Under Harry Redknapp, Sherwood and now Poch, I look forward to every kick of the ball - as well as hope for a good end result...
Arguably the West Brom side that Mowbray got relegated as last placed in 08/09 played attractive and committed football and still got relegated.
League position definitely, Football is about winning and in the pub or whatever football is about winning and bragging rights.
I'd argue that virtually no club who's in a poor league position play attractive football.

What about the Wigan side that Martinez got relegated?
Surely you thought they played attractive football?
Nah, they played very naive football that lacked defensive intelligence, didn't make it attractive. I'd also say Wigan fans weren't very happy with it and very frustrated other than the fact they won a trophy.
Why should it be one or the other? Surely Manchester United should be doing both right?
Remember having this argument when Fergie was manager. People seem to think shiiiiiit football and results are mutually exclusive.
It was naive and the defending wasn't great.
But the perception of the style of that team got the manager a move to one of the biggest teams in the country.
I'd say they would easily have been in the top half of best teams to watch for a neutral.
I don't think I had any desire to watch Wigan.

The FA Cup final was a great watch.
It was, not for the attractiveness of Wigan's play though.
League position every single time. I'd rather win the league playing not very good stuff than play good football and achieve nothing
I'd rather get 4th playing crap football than 5th playing great football.
And I'd rather finish 17th playing crap than relegated playing great.
Wigan were great to watch that season. They kept getting battered.
Even in our dire season we won the league we put 8 past them
It's not really league place that matters, it's qualification for Europe
I'd rather finish 7th in a Europa spot playing exciting football but 25 points off 4th than play dire football and finish in 5th 1pt off 4th.
It depends really.....last season we played some absolutely dire football, let in lots of goals, and finished with a modest low 60s point total, but it all appears to have borne fruit this season with some key players in the system.
I think Liverpool are better placed than either United or Chelsea at present to be competitive next season. They have some lovely attacking players and it is still a very young squad.
If they can get a top CB in I think it will go a long way.

Funny that, it's based on comments from manu fans
If you get a team playing attractive football with the quality of players United are able to afford and a minimum -and I mean minimum- of defensive nous, then all you need is a little patience and league position will come as a matter of course.
If you play turgid football with an eye only to your position in the league, then when it does eventually fall apart (and, sooner or later, it almost invariably does), you are left with what Jorge Valdano very aptly termed sh·it on a stick.
