It is only politicians who have put us in that position. We are held in high regard by the people of America, I have been to the States at least 50 times and the amount of compliments I get from people about Britain being a loyal ally and friend of the USA.
Don't forget also that without Marshall Aid after WW2, we would have struggled to rebuild and regenerate the infrastructure of the UK.

Forgive me for the length of the post but I have an answer. It's because of the ideological crossover between the radical left and hard right. This isn't something inherently new.
Take some of Trumps foreign policy statements to see what I mean.
Trump has questioned the value of NATO and implied he doesn't think Article 5 is fit for purpose [collective self-defence if one member is attacked, the British triggered this after 9/11].
Now this view is the absolute antithesis of the kind of politics held by the likes of Thatcher or Ronald Reagan. They would have taken the exact opposite position. Or more recently Cameron, May or Obama would have the opposite position.
But it just so happens to be exactly what Sizzles hero, Jeremy Corbyn, has believed in all his political life. And he said as much just a few months ago.
Look at Trumps view on Russian hostility more generally. He believes the West and America are to blame for Russia's adventurism in Ukraine. He has even said the U.S should legitimise Russia's occupation of Crimea. Once again, Thatcher and Reagan would be turning in their graves. But it just so happens Comrade Jeremy has said exactly the same thing quite recently.
The list goes on. Also look at his campaign against free trade and globalisation. Trump is against TTIP and the transatlantic free trade agreement generally
. Who else is? Cameron? No. May? No. Mitt Romney? No. Ah yes, of course, Saint Jeremy again!
Point here is that if you keep telling people over and over again that our political systems are "corrupt" and only work for the 1% etc, then eventually they are going to believe it and want radical change.
If you keep telling people over and over again that most of the worlds big problems are the fault of Western intervention or whatever, then they might eventually believe you, and vote for someone who brags about withdrawing from world affairs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well said, and I have pointed this out too, in less eloquent posts.
Corbyn has also been anti-Eu most of his life.
The far left and far right also blame jews for world problems, such as international finance.
People might not be aware that Trump was a Democrat and even donated several million $ to Hillary Clintons campaign to be the Democratic candidate back in 2007. Obama was chosen.
Funny how Clinton never mentioned getting money from Trump

Well known Trump was a friend of the Clintons in the past.
Hilary is more dodgy and dangerous, especially on libya, russia, syria and the Clinton Foundation.

I've heard this several times already. I'm asking a simple question.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Google it cal...I have no access to trump funding but it makes him look silly, ish, being a friend of the clinton clan/party.
No exact figures available for total donations to Hillary's campaign in 2007, however typically billionaires like Trump would be asked for at least $2m.
One definite sum Trump donated to the Clinton Foundation was $100,000

I asked the same question of TheBells folowing his claims re ISIS & The Clinton Foundation and was met with the same response, Google it. This is what I posted
Google it.....History shows what hilary did andsaid in Libya, and ho they messed up in relation to isis type groups.
Yes and no. It's explained in the below quote;
"Trump said "Hillary Clinton invented ISIS with her stupid policies. She is responsible for ISIS."
There were several factors that contributed to the growing power of ISIS, but it’s misleading to pin the responsibility solely on Clinton. For starters, the roots of ISIS trace back to 2004, when Bush was president and before Clinton was Obama’s secretary of state.
She did vote to authorize force in Iraq in 2002 while a senator, but that was advocated by the Bush administration and the vast majority of senators. The intervention in Libya, which she supported, did give ISIS an opening, but Trump is overstating her role by saying she is responsible for ISIS"

Clinton Foundation is close to saudi arabia....fact
Yes they do, and have received donations from Saudi. However so did George W Bush's foundation. The US Government.has also had close links to Saudi for years.
Should Clinton be dragged over the coals for being linked to Saudi when the US is closely linked itself?
BTW Trump did make the claim Saudi donated $25m to the Clinton Foundation.

You are wrong, the USA want European countries to gear them selves up to defend their borders. European countries have become complacent and think that America will rush to their aid at the drop of a hat.
America has been gradually withdrawing from certain countries for decades, they still have key installations in areas of Europe and also use of facilities in other areas.
The problem has been that because of the lethargy of European countries (UK included) they are spending trillions on weapons and military projects, if they could spend a third less then that money could be spent back home in the States on infrastructure
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Genius, sorry mate, but I am fed up with being a puppet state of the USA anyway. Nothing would please me more than to sever the so called special relationship with the USA. A bankrupt corrupt country with corrupt leaders. I would prefer Britain just to go it alone, most countries in the world do, we do not need to suck up to the States anymore, especially with Trump in charge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is still the lifetime of some people that America quite literally saved this country and the rest of Western Europe.
It is in the lifetime of most of us that America saved Europe from the Soviet Union.
You and Corbyn are both utterly mad on this stuff. A world without American dominance will be a world on fire dominated by tyrants.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you'll find it was mainly Russia who defeated the Germans in WW2, USA probably 3rd biggest contributor behind Britain.
America was just working in its own self interest after WW2 with regards to the cold war with the Soviets, in its determination to keep Western European countries from electing communist leaders so we could be part of their superpower club rather than Russia's.
It was cold hard self interest nothing saviour like about it.
Since the Korean war just after WW2 I'd argue America's foreign policy has done far more to stifle democracy and the will of the people.
This idea of America being the world's hero is based on fantasy the reality is they have supported tyrants and terror for cold hard cash almost every time, if it is in their interest to hell with democracy.
I will give them the war with Imperial Japan and the Korean one though!
Well done...

Hopefully these hollow victories make them realise their real enemy, globalisation, or more specifically, globalisation designed to benefit the elite.
Crazy right wingers with promises they have no intention of keeping, £350M for the NHS, building a wall, are not the answer but an alternative offered by the likes of Corbyn and Sanders (maybe, from the little I know about him)
These voters were in part attracted by a racist message but part of that is to do with them missing out, we need them to understand that immigration is actually an economic benefit but right wing policies mean that economic benefit is hardly seen by the poorest in society.
I watched this quite a few years ago, it talks about economic disparity reaching unsustainable levels and referencing the levels during the French revolution.
