Is he injured? When did he last play a game?

I'd have loved to have signed him 5/6 years ago. He's at the tail end of his career but yes I'd still like him on board. Great back up if nothing else although 3m seems a lot. We got 1.3m for Grant though so ... 🤔

It is a gamble. It might just come off if we can get him fit. He will want to resurrect his career. Mac could just be the man. Dazzer and Tom Ince have responded to Steve. Why not David Nugent?

In my opinion David nugent will be know better than Bent he's past it. Need to bring Quality in if we want to be in the top six come the end of the season

I'm not that enthused, but if Fulham won't budge on Chris Martin, then we do need another striker and at 3 million, it's not a huge risk.

If he weighs in with around 8 goals? He will be well worth it.

Can someone tell me how Boro have put £1 million on his valuation when he joined Boro for an undisclosed fee being a reported £2mil

Wassa

i am on the fence with this one, never really liked him, probably because he always seemed to score against us, but short of the Martin situation being sorted anytime soon, there aren't a lot of available options that are likely to be less than £10m.

Is he better than what we have? Probably not. Would I like him to come off the bench to change the course of a game or pinch that late winner? Probably yes.

Underwhelming signing, yet again! The price for a 30+ in my opinion is too much. Should be looking to sign players with resale value.

I'm certain there's a player within the Spanish, French or German markets we could sign for a similar value who would be younger and offer us same or more than Nugent.

Kodija signed for 2.1 million.
Afobe signed for 2.0 million
Dwight Gayle signed for Peterborough from conference league.
Tammy Abraham - loan signing
Chirs Wood - 2.5 million.

Players mentioned are all below 26 years of age.

Should we bring Theo back.?

He cost Boro £4m. It says fee is "up" to £3m if he signs for Derby. He scored some important goals for Boro last season. Most of their fans are sorry to see him go and are thanking him for his efforts and goals. Hes proven at this level. Always hated him playing against us.

Went to Boro for £4M?

'Sky sources understand Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic was also interested in signing Nugent this month.'

Looks like there's a bit of arm wrestling going on between us & Fulham at the moment

The thing is that we ARE one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Championship and, if things are to change, we need to improve out options in attack; does Nugent offer something different?

We may have only had a Plan A when Chris Martin was here but that single plan brought about many more goals and from more sources than just CM's 20+ goals per season; it also put a bit more strain on the defence too, but we need to find a decent balance. We seem to have veered from trying to outscore everyone to becoming determined not to concede when what we actually need is either both simultaneously or a middle-ground.

If Nugent can take our number 10 role and score some goals, we'd be closer to where we need to be. If the fee is £3m and we secure promotion then his re-sale value (or lack of) won't matter; if we don't get promotion then it's a loss but nothing like as bad as the Vydra gamble is shaping up to be. Vydra seems to have zero confidence, whereas hopefully Nugent's is bulletproof having had the career that he's had to date.

I don't like him but I'd sanction his signing for "up to £3m" if I was in Uncle Mel's place.

Just to put things into context, as a player & a personality, I like him more than I like Lansbury.

I was under the impression that we were signing players to come straight into the team and improve it. Now we are looking to get a squad player who is the wrong side of 30. He would be OK for under a million but 3 million is far too much.

Have I mentioned before that we should of signed Hogan from Rochdale?

We should of signed Messi when he was a foetus.

I don't recall hearing McLaren say anything about new players going straight into the team. I know he said about a month ago that any new additions would indeed be to strengthen the squad rather than the first team. He might of course have changed his mind since then and if an opportunity comes up for a better player we should take it.

While of course we should go all out for Savies at Rochdale, Nugent is a quality player at this level. We have been definitely lacking a forward who will retain possession. I hope he IS a squad player not a regular starter though. He isn't the focal point we need. Bent scored a wonder goal on Saturday but was anonymous otherwise and unless he scores a goal like that every week he isn't contributing enough.

Apparently Downing and Ibe made available for loan. I'd go for Ibe if that is at all possible.

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect our many scouts to find a few decent young players in lower leagues. Or what is the purpose of them?

Who was the last player to come from a lower league side and do well since Bryson?

I would have Ibe back, but he will have to wake his ideas up, he looks terrible at Bournemouth from what I've seen on TV. He lost the ball in the middle of the pitch and just stood there and watched the opponents go on to score.
