No other team is able to cover these positions quite like we can and we have arguably the best LB and RB in the league in Rose and Walker.

Trippier and Davies never get enough credit

Been thinking the same - people keep saying that they can't wait for Rose to return, but actually it's been Davies who has played for the last two months and contributed to our incredible run of form.

Rose is a better player, but Davies has largely been brilliant having deputised for him (albeit a bit shaky in the first few games).

I'd be gutted for him if Rose automatically comes back in for him this season when fit - for me it is now his place to lose.

His last poor game was vs Liverpool just before Valentine's Day and about 2 weeks after Rose got injured. Can't recall how frequently he'd played in the prior month or so but it's not entirely impossible that a lack of sharpness against a threat such as Mane contributed to it?

He didn't get much help that day

Davies has done an admirable job lately, but the 3421 has been a massive help for him. It frees him up from lots of defensive duties with the extra man behind him, especially when he has a competent leftback in Vertonghen on the left of the three. He can concentrate on being a left-midfielder.

When we have played the 4231, having Son in the side is also a big benefit to Davies.

Trippier has also benefitted from the 3421 when he has played.

The difference for me is that the attacking impact we get from Davies and Trippier in a 3421 is like the impact from Rose and Walker in a 4231.

When Walker and Rose are in a 3421 they give us what an old fashioned winger does.

'There is little to choose between Trippier and Walker, and it's the same on the other side.'

Credit to Davies and Trippier for filling in, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Rose and Walker would get into any starting XI in the league, Davies and Trippier are mid-table players

Davies and Trippier are both good enough to start for City and Liverpool, with the full backs they have.

I would have Clyne over Trippier all day long.

In his Southampton days maybe. You're probably right though.

As 2nd choice you aren't gonna get much better than what we've got is my point.

I guess the real question here is...would you swap Davies for Milner as your left back

Kolarov, Cliche, Sagna, Zabaleta are way past it though and i'd have Davies and Trippier over any of them

People love to sensationalise Davies/Trippier at the expense of Walker/Rose and have done all throughout their careers.

Davies has done a great job this season and we are thankful for him, Rose is only really missed when we play the top teams.

All IFS and BUTS but were Rose fit for that Chelsea semi final

Fullback is City's weak point though, we all know that.

They are not after Tripper, their old boy, that is for sure

Not their biggest fans. Just don't think either are pacey enough and hinders our system somewhat.

Trippier I can tolerate due to his decent crosses but Davies just doesn't do enough going forward but then also not great defensively either.

I am with Hengy

They are both passive players for me. When the team is doing well, they compliment it well.

Rose and Walker are pro-active - they try and make things happen

my point.

Davies linked up really well with Son at the weekend and most of our attacking play was down the left involving him.

Great to see he was looking for forward passes rather than his passive ones to Jan.

Think it has a lot to do with Son sticking to the touch line an awful lot at the weekend rather than we've played with Eriksen on the left who's naturally likely to come more infield leaving Davies to do the running which he just can't do like Rose can.

If Son played the way he did against Arsenal up at Liverpool then I think that result could've been very different.

They're alright, probably as good as backup as you'll get without developing your own. There's a lack of quality full backs in the league tbh.

Partly because the job of a fullback has become increasingly more difficult

I thought Davies was excellent against Arsenal & is very under rated by some fans.

Tripper is a great crosser of the ball, just a little frail when it comes to defending.
